It was a pleasure to join the Luminous Lantern Parade in Brisbane last evening alongside Multicultural Australia and many other community organisations.

Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day 2026

Every year on 25 August, the Rohingya Community worldwide observes Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day to honour the victims of the Rohingya Genocide, remember the resilience of survivors, and reaffirm our collective commitment to justice, human rights, and accountability.

For decades, the Rohingya people have endured persecution, displacement and unimaginable suffering. This day is an opportunity for our community and supporters to come together in solidarity, reflect on those we have lost, amplify the voices of survivors, and ensure that their stories are never forgotten.

As part of this year's commemoration, the program will include:

● A remembrance ceremony
● Survivor testimonies and community reflections
● Messages of solidarity from community leaders and distinguished guests
● A collective call for justice, peace and the prevention of genocide

Bangladesh government has formed an 11-member National Strategy Formulation Committee on Rohingya Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, to prepare a national strategy for the swift and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas.

We were honoured to attend the Queensland Police Service Annual Eid Dinner 2026 on the invitation of police comissioner, held under the theme “United in Gratitude, Harmony and Relationship.”

The evening was a meaningful reflection on the importance of unity, inclusion, and strengthening community connections.

It was an opportunity for BRAQA representative to engage with community leaders, faith leaders, NGO representatives, and the leadership of the Queensland Police Service, including the Acting Police Commissioner, in an atmosphere of mutual respect, harmony, and cultural understanding.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Queensland Police Service and the Acting Commissioner for organising such a significant event that fosters stronger relationships and brings communities together.

Together, through gratitude and understanding, we build a more united and inclusive society.

It was an honour for us to meet with Kaoru Okuizumi at the University of Queensland in Brisbane a few weeks ago, as part of our ongoing commitment to pursuing justice for the victims of the Rohingya genocide.

During this meaningful discussion, we shared important information about the atrocities committed against the Rohingya people in Myanmar and highlighted the urgent need for accountability.

The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar continues to play a critical role in collecting and preserving evidence to support international justice processes, including the Rohingya genocide case at the International Court of Justice and proceedings at the International Criminal Court.

We sincerely thank Ms. Kaoru Okuizumi for travelling from Geneva to Australia and for taking the time to engage with us on this important matter.

Justice, accountability, and dignity for the Rohingya must remain a global priority.
