It takes a community! We recently wrapped up a fantastic two-week rollout in Numbulwar, NT, working hand-in-hand with Numburindi Corporation to get our new laundry van up and running.

Located 781km east of Darwin, Numbulwar is one of the most remote service locations that Orange Sky is operating in.

The new team hit the ground running - driving the van themselves and completing 13 loads of washing on their very first official shift!

A massive thank you to the Numbulwar community, the Numburindi Corporation Board Directors, the Numburindi Homelands team and of course, the new Numburindi Laundry Team for driving this project forward! We're so grateful for your ideas, opinions and guidance on how the laundry facility should operate around community. We can’t wait to see the impact and great yarns this van brings 🧡

Hey, so this is crazy! Melbourne is where so much of our story took shape, and this video is from over a decade ago, launching in our second location, when Australia-wide expansion felt like a big, bold dream.

Some of those very first Melbourne shifts, like Haven Home Safe and Chelsea Community Centre, are still running today. It’s also where one of our earliest vans, JelleyFish, hit the road… and where the now-iconic Orange Sky hoodie was born.

Looking back, it’s a reminder that real change doesn’t arrive fully formed; it’s built slowly together, with you - our Orange Sky supporters - choosing to back what we do. Whether you've volunteered your time, taken on Orange Sky fundraisers, shared us online, come on board as staff, become one of our essential partners, or personally donated to power our services (or hold another wild and wonderful connection to Orange Sky), you are part of our story. Thanks LOADS 🧡

We've got something we'd like to talk about...

Homelessness is widely misunderstood, and is often viewed as someone sleeping rough on a city street. And while that’s one form of homelessness, it’s actually the smallest part of the picture (accounting for only 7%).

Today is World Homelessness Day, marking 12 years of Orange Sky serving our community.

And what we've learnt over that time? No single service can solve homelessness alone.

That’s why we are proud to launch our partnership with the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (AAEH). Alongside a growing network of communities, we’re uniting around one shared goal: to end homelessness in Australia.

At Orange Sky, we’ll continue to build trust through consistent human connection and access to essential services. For many friends experiencing homelessness or hardship, a visit to an Orange Sky shift is a soft entry point into the various services they might need access to.

We're proud to be announcing a new a new national partnership this World Homelessness Day...

Orange Sky and the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness (AAEH) are backing a shared goal - alongside a growing network of communities - that together, we can end homelessness in Australia.

Ending homelessness doesn't mean no one will ever lose their home or experience homelessness again. It means that when it happens, it's rare, brief and once-off.

In a perfect world, Orange Sky wouldn’t need to exist - or at least our focus would look very different. But there are thousands of people we support each week, alongside service partners and communities across the country, who are navigating different hardship journeys.

That's why this partnership with AAEH matters. It's a key step towards a future without homelessness.

As always, we will continue to meet people where they are, on their terms, with consistency, warmth and genuine connection. And never without our washing machines, dryers and a set of chairs.

Orange Sky is now at Wyllie Park! 🧡

The Wyllie Park Camping Ground was created by City of Moreton Bay Council as a dedicated space for people experiencing homelessness. Wyllie Park is now home to one of our newest shifts.

On our very first shift, our amazing volunteers washed 9 loads of laundry and shared plenty of warm conversations with local friends. With the park getting busier, we’re so grateful to be on the ground offering free laundry, warm showers, and a safe space to chat.

Hardship doesn't discriminate, and for many Aussies, a few unexpected life events are all it takes to find themselves doing it tough. Being able to show up and offer practical support, and a non-judgmental ear, means the world to our team.

Ask any of our volunteers, and they’ll tell you the same thing: you get just as much out of volunteering as the friends who use our service.

Yes, volunteers run the washing machines and load up the dryers - but that's just the beginning. The real heart of what we do happens around the orange chairs, sharing laughs and connecting with fellow volunteers, friends and the incredible service providers working alongside us everyday.

When Nick arrived at a temporary accomodation centre in Canberra, between careers and navigating a new medical condition, he learned from their staff that Orange Sky had a fixed Laundry Pod offering free laundry inside the centre. "I gave it a whirl and it's beautiful," he shared, smiling as he recalled that first experience.

Since then, Orange Sky has become a regular part of Nick’s weekly routine. Nick has been coming down to the Orange Sky shifts to chat with the volunteer team, bringing his signature smile and positivity with him every time. "I come to Orange Sky because they do a thorough, fantastic job and it's a great atmosphere."

Beyond clean clothes, Nick has found a welcoming space to connect. "I learn a lot of things through other people, their conversations," he reflected. "I love chatting and also I think they do a fantastic service of your clothes."

Nick’s love of the guitar shone through in conversation; he hopes to hit the streets of Canberra to start busking soon, and to form a band. His passion for music and his warm, open nature suggest that his next chapter is already tuning up to be something special.

Since March, we've partnered with Central Australian Aboriginal Congress to bring free laundry and genuine chats to Mparntwe (Alice Springs)!

Marking our third mobile laundry service in this community, the Remote Vehicle, in it's first six months, supported the community with 1,101 loads of washing! The service travels across Mparntwe, including into town camps, helping more community members access free laundry facilities closer to where they live.

“Health is shaped by the everyday conditions people live in. Making free laundry facilities easier to access is one practical way we can support the health of families across Mparntwe,” Congress CEO Ebony Abbott-McCormack said.

Mparntwe is a big, spread-out community, so having another mobile laundry on the road means we can reach more residents. And, as always, it’s about more than washing clothes. Our service creates a welcoming space to connect, have a chat and support the health and wellbeing of the community.

A huge thank you to the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress team for making this service possible and to everyone who has welcomed Orange Sky into the community!
