Every day in Australia, approx. 32 people are diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. 20% of those are under 50 years of age. A total of approx. 80000 people in Australia are said to be living with Parkinson's. The incidence of Parkinson's has increased 17% in the last 6 years. 4 times more people have Parkinson's than MS. It is the second most common neurological disease after dementia 1. Following diagnosis, people with Parkinson's (PWP) search for therapies that address their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. State based Parkinson's organizations and support groups offer literature and fellowship. The internet provides a plethora of information that is difficult to work through and determine the best treatment options. Worldwide research has highlighted the benefit of some therapies. Exercise is currently the only therapy that will slow/halt Parkinson's symptoms But there is a gap in the market. Some beneficial exercises such as non- contact boxing, fast cycling and singing are not readily available for PWP. It's not that the product/service is not available, it's that it has not been adapted to the skill set of PWP. Parkinson's Fighter’s United (PFU) Inc. was formed in 2017 as a non-profit organisation to bridge the gap and help providers to tailor their product/ service to those living with Parkinson's.
