Wavell Whirlaways Square Dance Club We are a square dance club. Meeting on Wednesday afternoons, from 1:30pm - 4:30pm.

Located at the Wonargo Scout Hall, 62 Flower Street, Northgate. 1:30-2:30pm Round dancing, 2:30-4:30pm Square dancing.

Wavell Whirlaways is looking forward to hosting the Sunshine State Round Up on Saturday 13th June at the Geebung Bowls Club.

It will start off with a Square Dance Society Queensland general meeting at 1pm, followed by a great afternoon of dancing and fun, commencing at 1:30pm.

Hi everyone.

It’s with a feeling of deep sadness that I need to inform you that our good friend and club member David Pearce passed away peacefully at 12:15pm on Tuesday, the 14th of January. David and his wife Faith are valued members of our Square Dance Club, and we stand with and support Faith at this difficult time.

The funeral service for David will be held on Tuesday, the 27th of January, 10am at the Aspley Uniting Church, 748 Robinson Road, Aspley 4034, with morning tea to follow.

Hi Everyone

On Sunday the 21st of December, I attended the dance at the Red Deer Club to celebrate the “Light Up The Night” Evening. Glow sticks were the order of the night. Four squares in attendance, and the evening finished with a light supper.
Shane Lieber was the feature Caller for the evening. Thanks to Ron Morgan for his help with music for me, when I called a bracket. A great night was had by all.

On New Year’s Eve, I’m going to the New Year’s Eve Dance at Lacombe. I’m not sure who the Caller will be for the evening, but I’m looking forward to dancing to him. It’s been really great to meet up with the Canadian Callers over here. Thanks to Joanne & Ron from the Lacombe Square Dance Club, for all their help with information regarding Square Dancing in the area.

It’s been snowing and very cold over here, but you quickly get used to it. My daughter Kristy and I have certainly had a White Christmas with our family in Red Deer. Earlier in thr week the temperature in Red Deer is -5 degrees but has been -23 degrees and it feels like -35 degrees.

Saturday we went to the Leduc Premium Outlet and the Leduc Raceway, to see the Christmas lights. Amazing light display. The weather was fine but very cold temperatures. -25 degrees, but with the wind chill it felt like -30 degrees. It was the coldest we’ve felt since being here.

Two nights ago we drove into Calgary to the zoo to see the lights. Amazing display of lights. Tonight we’re going to see an Ice Hockey Game between the Red Deer Rebels and the Tigers. We’re really looking forward to that.

Today was a different day. Temperature actually got to +1 degrees. A beautiful clear day.

Finally I would like to wish everyone a Happy, Safe and Prosperous 2026. See you all when we return.
