Beyond DV

Beyond DV Beyond DV Ltd is a charity that strives to prevent domestic violence through Recovery Support and Community Education.

Creators of the "Ask a Mate" App for young men and "Love&Learn" App for young women, Dress to Express Day and shopping centre HOPE Hubs. OUR STORY
Beyond DV Ltd was founded by Brisbane Teacher/School Adninistrator Carolyn Robinson, after her own daughter was impacted by domestic violence in 2017. Accompanying her daughter to court on numerous occasions had a profound impact on Carolyn, igniting a

desire to use her existing skills, expertise and contacts to help women and children rebuild their lives after domestic violence and to raise awareness around DV in the community. Beyond DV launched as a charity in January 2018. In 2020, Beyond DV and the Founder were inducted into the Qld Government Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Honour Roll. WOMENS PROGRAMS

On Tuesday evening the community came together at St Stephen's Cathedral for a Prayer Vigil for those impacted by domestic and family violence, those who support victims and those who perpetrate violence against their partners and children.

It was such a heartfelt ceremony with readings, prayers, acknowledgements, reflections, songs and a special blessing over the children.

Thank you to all those who joined us, with more than double last year's attendance.
As they left, many community members shared that the ceremony was incredibly moving for them. They experienced sadness at the impact that this scourge has on so many lives, but they were also left with hope...

We thank Archbishop Shane McKinley for presiding over the ceremony with such warmth, compassion and grace.

Enormous thanks to my fellow Organising Committee members- Steph Jorna (Brisbane Catholic Archdiocese), Juliana Mantilla (Challenge DV), Brian Sullivan (Sicura), Diana Lopes (Portugese Consulate), Carole Danby (Queensland Churches Together), Romero Centre, Centacare, Liturgy Brisbane for all the work that was done behind the scenes to bring this event together. It was such a pleasure and honour to work with you all and we're only getting started!!

I truly hope that this event is now embedded in the calendar for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

TUNE INTO 60 MINUTES THIS SUNDAY NIGHT!

In February this year, we surveyed our client group to get a better understanding of the prevalence of DV perpertrators who have more than one victim.

The results were harrowing and confirmed that our own family's experience with a repeat DV offender is certainly not rare.

This Sunday night, 60 MINUTES shines the spotlight on the dangers that women and children are unnecessarily placed in every day when they are not given access to information that would reveal the violent history of their current partner, and provide them with an opportunity to access support to remove themselves from that danger.

We believe that there is a solution to this- a Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme- something that I have been advocating for since 2020, when our daughter's perpetrator was convicted of domestic violence against his third victim. Just last year, it was reported in the news that he was on bail for DV offences against another two women. There is a pattern of violence here that cannot be ignored.

Women and children have a right to be safe. Withholding crucial information from them about the potential risk of a current partner places their safety behind the rights of DV offenders (predominantly men) to privacy.
This must change.
For every woman and child murdered as a result of DFV, thousands more who survive DFV are impacted for the rest of their lives.

Women and their children deserve better...

Thank you to the 60 Minutes team- Anne & Dimity and the film crew for the care that you took with our incredible Survivor Advocate Jess and myself throughout the creation of this story.

💜 PRAYER VIGIL-DV PREVENTION MONTH💜

To close out Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Month, there will be a Prayer Vigil held at St Stephen's Cathedral on Tuesday 2 June from 5.30pm to 6.30pm.

This event is such a heartfelt way to come together as a community and pray for those whose lives have been lost to DFV, those who have survived DFV but still bear the impacts, those who support community members impacted by DFV and those who choose to abuse their loved ones that they will change their behaviour.

A group of passionate community members including Julia Mantilla (Challenge DV) , Brian Sullivan, Carole Danby (Queensland Churches Together), Diana Lopes, the Romero Centre and Centacare have come together with Steph Jorna from the Brisbane Catholic Archdoicese to plan this event. Beyond DV is extremely grateful to be involved, particularly as our faith has played such an enormous part in our family's own DV experience and in the journey of our charity.

We hope that you can join us on Tuesday night.💜

💜HOPE HUB ORION SPRINGFIELD OPENS💜

Today was momentous for Beyond DV as we opened our new HOPE Hub at Orion Springfield Central.
This Hub is the first of three to be delivered across Queensland with funding from the Queensland Government, and we are so grateful for their support of this evidence-based, highly innovative and impactful model.

We welcomed Minister Hon. Amanda Camm MP and Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding, as well as representatives from Mirvac & Orion, the Brisbane Lions, NULLA Furniture and Qld Police Vulnerable Person's Unit to tour our beautiful new space.

We are extremely grateful for the support of the community throughout this project, with many products and services being provided pro bono, including lighting, carpet, air conditioning and fire services. Enormous thanks must go to Tim Bloom and Jay Golledge for their coordination, on such a tight timeline, to deliver something truly life-changing/life-saving.

Craig and I are also thankful to have such a wonderful team behind us- our staff and Board who continue to go above and beyond in support of our mission.

*Our HOPE Hub Orion Springfield Central will open to the community from Monday 1 June.*

The HOPE Hub will be open seven days per week, with trained staff available to support community members who are experiencing DFV or are rebuilding their lives after DFV. Further details will be available on our website www.beyonddv.org.au

💜 DVF PREVENTION MONTH 2026 Part 4 💜

*I went back to Brisbane Boys College for my annual presentation to their Amnesty Group, sharing with them information about domestic violence, signs of healthy/unhealthy relationships and our Ask a Mate and Love&Learn teen relationship apps
*I attended a DFV Roundtable with Assistant Minister Ged Kearney, hosted by Federal MP Kara Cook, where I was able to share with the Assistant Minister the most recent focus areas for Beyond DV.
*Craig & I attended a community event at the Wynnum Men's Shed, also hosted by Kara, with Federal Men's Health Envoy Dan Repacholi and Assistant Minister Ged Kearney. I was given the opportunity to present about our Ask a Mate Project. Dan Repacholi has been an incredible supporter of our National campaign and, in fact, our National Great Mate Winner Joey Butler comes from his electorate!!!
Plans are now underway with several Federal MP's to take our primary prevention campaign all the way to Canberra!!
*I attended the Premier's DFV Prevention Month Breakfast at Parliament House, and was honoured to have the Minister Hon. Amanda Camm mention our HOPE Hubs in her speech. It was so lovely to catch up with sector colleagues
*Following the breakfast, I attended a forum where the Minister launched the Queensland Government's new DFV Reform Strategy- Safer Families, Safer Communities. Hearing the Minister describe the importance of prevention through recovery and healing validated our work in this space.
Once again, it was so heartening to hear the Minister confirm her support for Beyond DV, after so many years of fighting to be recognised and valued as a legitimate DFV organisation.

We have one week left to go- a very important one as we prepare to officially open our second HOPE Hub on Tuesday (sneak peek below!).
