Braille House is a charity that produces resources for children and adults who are blind or have low vision. Braille House began in 1897 as the Queensland Braille Writing Association by the then Governor's wife Lady Lamington (yep - the lady the Lamington is named after - but that's another story). Braille House's mission has not changed in 125 years "To provide Braille tuition and reading material to empower people who are blind or who have low vision to live with dignity and independence"

This is one of the last chances to support Braille House through Play For Purpose.
Over the years, this simple fundraiser has generated around $5,000 for Braille House, and we'd love to finish strong.

If you purchase a ticket before 11:59pm tonight, you'll go into the Bonus Draw to win a $2,500 Flight Centre gift voucher, as well as the Early Bird Draw and the major raffle featuring a $300,000 First Prize Pack.

Every ticket helps support our work providing accessible formats and protecting literacy for people who are blind or have low vision.

If you've been thinking about buying a ticket, now is the perfect time.

Braille House was proud to participate in the Vision 2020 Parliamentary Friends Function and Exhibition in Canberra, providing an important opportunity to share the impact of braille and accessible literacy with parliamentarians, policymakers and sector leaders from across Australia.

The event highlighted just how many areas of public life and policy connect with the work we do, from education and literacy through to health, disability and community participation.

Throughout the event, we shared a simple but powerful message:

In a world designed for sight, braille ensures that literacy is a right, not a privilege, empowering individuals to navigate the world on their own terms.

Braille represents more than a way to read. It represents freedom, privacy and opportunity.

We were particularly grateful for the opportunity to engage directly with parliamentarians and decision-makers. The policies, priorities and funding decisions made within Parliament can have a profound impact on the services and opportunities available to people who are blind or have low vision, making these conversations so important.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to visit, ask questions and learn more about the role braille plays in literacy, independence and access to information.

We also extend our thanks to Vision 2020 Australia for bringing together organisations and leaders who are working to create a more inclusive Australia.

Together, we can help ensure that access to literacy remains a right, not a privilege.

Education opens doors, and braille opens the door to education, independence, and employment for many people who are blind or have low vision.

On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we're reminded that literacy remains one of the strongest pathways to opportunity and economic empowerment. Yet around the world, many people who need braille still face barriers to accessing reading and learning materials.

At Braille House, our mission is to empower people of all ages who are blind or have low vision through alternative formats. That's why we're proud to support the ICEVI-WBU Global Braille Literacy Campaign and to advocate for braille literacy every day.

When people have access to braille, they have greater opportunities to learn, participate fully in education, build skills, and pursue meaningful employment. Expanding access to braille is not just about reading; it's about creating pathways to opportunity and inclusion.

"I can't see summer, but it's clear in my mind.
I hear it, I feel it, in my heart all the time."

These opening words from All the Ways I See immediately transport readers to a warm summer day at the beach through sound, touch, smell and imagination.

Created by and , and illustrated by , this beautiful story celebrates the many ways we experience the world around us and reminds us that there is more than one way to explore, understand and connect with our surroundings.

We're proud to help make this story available to braille readers through our collection of braille and twin vision editions.

Today we're proud to launch All the Ways I See in a range of tactile reading formats.

Created by and , and beautifully illustrated by , All the Ways I See is a joyful story about experiencing a day at the beach through the perspective of a blind child.

Already celebrated for its innovative accessibility features, we're excited to partner with Allen & Unwin to make the book available in multiple tactile formats through Braille House.

We're excited about this project not only because All the Ways I See is a fantastic inclusive story, but because access to books remains a significant challenge for many children who are blind or have low vision. Research shows that for every 100 books available to a sighted child, a child who is blind has access to just five. Expanding the availability of tactile reading materials helps more children experience the joy of stories, literacy and shared reading.

Whether you're looking for a copy for home, school, a library or your organisation, every purchase helps support Braille House's work to empower people of all ages who are blind or have low vision through alternative formats.

Thank you to Nas Campanella, Eliza Hull, Sophie B**r and Allen & Unwin for helping make this project possible.
