Yesterday was World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

WEAAD is a way for the community to come together to increase awareness of elder abuse and learn more about how to prevent it.

Elder abuse can take many forms and is often experienced within relationships of trust, including with family members, carers or others in positions of influence. It may include emotional or psychological abuse, financial abuse, physical or sexual abuse, neglect, social isolation or abandonment.

Knowing how to spot the signs is an important step in helping older people stay safe, connected and supported. Raising awareness and starting conversations can help prevent abuse and encourage people to seek support earlier.

You’re doing great legal education — but how do you prove it?

This session dives into evaluation approaches that go beyond participant numbers.

We’ll cover practical considerations, what works (and what doesn’t), delivering CLE for diverse audiences, and ways to demonstrate meaningful impact. This session is perfect for CLC staff who want to conduct evaluation that leads to learning, advocacy, and funding success.

This webinar is being presented by Northern Community Legal Centre's Deputy CEO, Tania McKenna.

As Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) concludes on Mabo Day, we acknowledge the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and the landmark 1992 High Court decision that overturned terra nullius or 'land belonging to no one'.

Mabo Day is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of taking a stand in the face of adversity and the power of advocacy to create lasting change. CLCQ pays our deepest respects to Eddie Mabo and his family and recognises the many strong First Nations advocates across our CLC sector in Queensland and abroad who continue to champion justice and strengthen our communities every day.

While National Reconciliation Week draws to a close, we know reconciliation is an ongoing journey that calls on all of us to choose justice, respect, truth-telling and meaningful action every day.

The Zenadth Kes/Torres Strait Islander flag was designed by the late Bernard Namok of Waiben/Thursday Island.

On 29 May, 1992 the flag was official presented to the people of the Torres Strait.

The flag was created as a symbol of unity and identity for Torres Strait Islander peoples. The cultures and traditions of Torres Strait Islanders are strongly connected to the land, sea and sky — elements which are represented in the flag.

In June 1992, the flag was recognised by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission and has had equal prominence with the Aboriginal flag for more than 30 years as an official flag of Australia under Commonwealth legislation.
