Our Community Is Growing. Our Education Infrastructure Must Too. 🏫 πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«

West End and South Brisbane are growing quickly and our local schools West End State School Brisbane State High Parents & Citizens Association are already nearing or over capacity. Planning for the education infrastructure needs to happen now, not after all the land is gone.

We’ve created a simple email campaign calling for land to be secured for a future primary school in the 4101 catchment and for education infrastructure to be properly considered alongside future development.

So far, 155 emails have already been sent β€” which is a great start. But this is one of those situations where numbers really do matter.

The more local families and residents who take a few minutes to send a message, the clearer the community voice becomes.

πŸ‘‰ You can use the prepared letter, or customise it as much as you like by adding your own experience, concerns or vision for the future of our area.

Uniform Shop Reminder – Students Can Collect Orders & Shop Independently!

Students are welcome to collect their uniform orders themselves during shop open hours, provided they have permission from their parent/carer to do so. To collect a Flexischool order, they simply need to provide their name and class at the Uniform Shop. 😊

Students can also purchase uniform items independently during our opening hours. Please note that the Uniform Shop is cashless – card payments only. πŸ’³

πŸ•’ Uniform Shop Opening Hours:
πŸ“… Monday–Wednesday: 7:30am–9:00am
πŸ“… Thursday: 2:30pm–4:00pm

Note: The Uniform Shop does not check permissions when students visit. We will assume that if a student comes to collect an order or make a purchase by card, they have already received permission from their parent/carer.

πŸ’™ Next Friday, for National Pyjama Day, our OSHC staff is wearing PJs to help make a difference!

National Pyjama Day is a fun way to raise awareness and funds for children in foster care, helping provide life-changing mentoring and learning support through The Pyjama Foundation.

By supporting our fundraiser, you'll help The Pyjama Foundation recruit, train and match dedicated Pyjama Angel mentors with children in foster care. These incredible volunteers provide more than reading and homework supportβ€”they offer encouragement, stability, confidence, and a trusted friend.

Together, we can help children dream bigger, believe in themselves, and build brighter futures.

πŸ’› Be the reason a child in care believes in themselves.

If you're able, please consider making a donation. Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference.

πŸŽ‰ Meet Our New WESS OSHC Coordinator – Ally!

πŸ‘‹ Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi, I'm Ally, the new Coordinator here at WESS OSHC! I've been working in early childhood education for 17 years and have always been passionate about supporting children as they learn, grow, and develop confidence in themselves.

❀️ What inspired you to work with children?
I love that every day is different! It's incredibly rewarding to watch children learn new skills, build friendships, and discover what they're capable of in a fun and supportive environment.

I'm also a proud mum to three beautiful girls, all under the age of five. Being a parent helps me understand just how important it is for families to know their children are in a safe, caring, and nurturing environment.

🌟 What are you most looking forward to at WESS OSHC?
I'm excited to get to know all of our families, learn about your children, and help create a welcoming environment where everyone feels included, supported, and has the opportunity to thrive.

πŸ‘‹ Anything you'd like to say to our community?
Please don't hesitate to come and say hello if you see me around. I'd love to meet you, have a chat, and get to know our wonderful WESS community!

πŸ’™ Join us in giving Ally a warm WESS welcome in the comments!

Today, we said farewell to three incredible members of the West End State School community – Prep teacher Lisa Wallace, Music teacher Gill Sparrow, and office staff member Lexia Willmington. πŸ€—πŸ‘‹

Each of these remarkable women has made an extraordinary contribution to our school. Through their passion, dedication and care, they have enriched the lives of countless children and families, and their presence will be deeply missed.

A special congratulations to Mrs Wallace, who retires after an incredible 40-year teaching career, including 20 years at WESS as our beloved Possums Prep teacher. Over those two decades, she has welcomed and nurtured more than 1,000 children as they took their very first steps into school life. Her kindness, warmth and unwavering commitment have helped shape generations of students and made countless families feel at home from day one.

Thank you, Mrs Wallace, Mrs Sparrow and Lexia, for everything you have given to our school community. Your legacy will live on through the thousands of lives you have touched. We wish you all the very best for your next chapters. πŸ’™

Today's announcement raises more questions than it answers.
We're told this is a "once-in-a-generation" project, yet the public still doesn't know key details about the deal involving publicly owned land. If this is such a great outcome for Queenslanders, why is so much of it being kept commercial-in-confidence?

Our community has never opposed housing. We support well-planned growth that delivers schools, transport, parks, green space and essential community infrastructure alongside new homes. And let's be honestβ€”these won't be affordable homes.

Once this land is developed, the opportunity to secure space for future schools, parks and other community infrastructure may be lost forever.

The West End State School Parents and Citizens Association has created a simple email template that sends your email directly to the Premier, Deputy Premier, Economic Development Queensland and all local MPs.

It takes less than 3 minutes to personalise and send, and every email helps keep the need for a future primary school and community infrastructure, greenspace and other community needs front of mind. Take action here πŸ‘‡

The deputy premier remained tight-lipped on whether the site, purchased by the former Labor government, had been sold or given away as part of the deal.
