As ANZAED 2026 comes to a close, Eating Disorders Queensland is proud to have been a Gold Partner of this year's conference.

Over the past few days, we've had the privilege of connecting with clinicians, researchers, advocates and lived experience leaders committed to improving outcomes for people affected by eating disorders.

Thank you to ANZAED for creating a space for learning, collaboration and innovation, and to everyone who attended our presentations, visited our poster, and experienced the Beneath the Surface art exhibition.

Together, we're helping build a more inclusive, equitable and person-centred future for eating disorder care.

What a wonderful opportunity it has been for EDQ over the last two days - presenting our bITE program evaluation data, our couselling program poster and of course, the incredible work put in by our clients in giving lives experience a voice through art.

Thank you to everyone at Anzead for the tremendous effort you have put into this conference. It has been a pleasure to be here with you. 💚

Carers need care too!

Helping a loved one through an eating disorder can feel overwhelming. You don’t have to do it alone.

Carer Connect is a peer support group for carers and key support people to come together, share experiences, and connect with others who understand what it is like to assist a loved one on their journey to recovery.

Each session provides space for conversation, practical insights, and gentle encouragement from our Carer & Key Support Coaches and Lived-Experience facilitators. Join us on the third Tuesday of each month:

Did you know? Weight stigma can make health outcomes worse.

Many people believe that shaming someone about their weight will motivate them to be healthier.

Research shows the opposite.

Weight stigma is linked to:
• Increased stress and poor mental health
• Higher rates of disordered eating
• Avoidance of healthcare due to fear of judgement
• Delayed diagnosis and treatment, including for eating disorders

That's why the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's updated national report is an important step forward. The report recognises that health is influenced by many factors, and that body size alone is not a reliable measure of a person's wellbeing.

It also acknowledges that eating disorders occur across all body sizes and are often missed in people living in larger bodies.

Health is more than a number.

Everyone deserves access to respectful, evidence-based healthcare, regardless of their size.
