📢 Seller Letters for the July 18th Super Auction

Seller letters will be available from 12:00am on Thursday 18th June.

Don’t forget to schedule your email in advance if you are hoping for an early letter. It’s a great way to avoid staying up until midnight while ensuring your submission is sent as soon as seller letters open.

I’ve also attached the NEW Seller Rules Sheet for anyone who was unable to attend the June General Meeting. These new rules come into effect from the July Auction and will be strictly adhered to going forward.
Please take the time to read them carefully before submitting your seller letter to make sure you know the differences.

We look forward to another fantastic Super Auction on 18th July! 🐟🎉

Good reading

Australia’s most wanted fish just got a shot at becoming legal.

PIAA has formally lodged a 58-page application with the Australian Government to add the Asian Arowana to the Live Import List.

Known as the “dragonfish”, the Asian Arowana is one of the world’s most culturally significant and valuable ornamental fish. But in Australia, there is currently no legal pathway to import, buy or sell one.

That does not stop demand.

It pushes it underground.

PIAA’s application proposes a strict, regulated pathway with mandatory CITES-registered captive breeding, microchipping, quarantine, indoor-only keeping, keeper registers and full traceability from farm to owner.

This is not deregulation.

It is about replacing illegal, unmonitored entry with a legal system built on science, biosecurity and accountability.

This is what PIAA membership makes possible.

No single retailer, importer or business could do this alone. But together, the industry can put evidence-backed applications in front of government and fight for practical, regulated outcomes.

If you benefit from this industry, this is your time to be part of the work that moves it forward.

🚨 THIS FRIDAY NIGHT – 7:30PM START 🚨

It’s come around quickly and it’s finally here!

I’ll be kicking the night off with a run-through of the new Seller Guidelines for the upcoming July Auction, followed by Steve Baines showcasing his incredible aquascaping talents, talking all things Ekka, and no doubt sharing plenty more tips and stories along the way.

🌿 Live 3ft aquascape demonstration
🎟️ The completed tank will be raffled on the night
🎁 The four door prizes are aquascaping tool sets generously donated by a retailer
🍪 Tasty munchies
😄 Great company and plenty of fishy chat

What more can I tell you? Surely that’s enough to fill a two-hour time slot! 😂

See you all Friday night!

Who is coming to our meeting on Friday night 5th June?

Not only do we have Steve Baines doing an Aquascaping presentation, AND an entering a tank at the EKKA presentation…

But I will also be reading out the NEW SELLER RULES that will come into play at the next July Auction. There is some big changes coming, and I would like to go through them quickly with the members and guests that night.

Happy Saturday all! Don’t forget to save the date for our June meeting — it’s going to be a big one!

Aquascaping and hardscaping expert Steve Baines will be taking over the floor, showing us how to decorate and scape our tanks like the pros. As one of the Stewards for the Pisciculture area at the Ekka, Steve will also be sharing valuable tips and advice on how to successfully enter a tank into the show.

If aquascaping, hardscaping, or entering the Ekka interests you — this is definitely a meeting you won’t want to miss!

Visitors and members are all welcome.

New information on Ornamental Fish.

New information on Ornamental Fish.

PIAA, in collaboration with Andy Wattam, has continued to progress applications to allow new ornamental fish species into Australia.

A further 62 live import applications have now been submitted, bringing the total submitted since January to 101 species.

In addition, there are:
11 AIAA/PIAA species including loaches and micro rasboras awaiting imminent decision

73 rainbowfish species awaiting final decision

That means 185 ornamental fish species are currently in the queue.

This work is an important part of supporting greater choice, responsible industry growth, and access to new species for Australian aquarium businesses and hobbyists.

PIAA would like to sincerely acknowledge and thank Andy Wattam for his significant work and ongoing efforts in helping drive this process forward.

SAVE THE DATE
Sneak Peek – June 5th Meeting 👀

Have you ever dreamed of creating the perfect aquascape?
Not sure where to even start?

Want the chance to win a tank built live on the night?

Or learn how to enter your fish into the Ekka 2026?

Yeah… this one’s a big deal.

We’ve got the perfect person to guide us through it all — Steve Baines will be joining us to demonstrate, explain, and share his expertise on both aquascaping AND preparing fish for Ekka show. While he is with us, we may as well get 2 topics for the price of 1 😉.

It’s early days so I can’t give too much away just yet… he’s currently out in the desert collecting and preserving endangered fish species (as you do 😄), but trust me — this is one meeting you don’t want to miss.

PS Photo is from Google, just for attention. This is NOT what will be up for Raffle on the night 😂.
