The Bicycle Queensland Facebook and Twitter pages are a place for you to learn about our latest initiatives, hear about our events, share your bike riding experiences, get advice on riding and have a bit of fun. Here are a few guidelines to make sure our Facebook and Twitter sites are a friendly and useful place to visit and search for information. Please keep them in mind. Be nice - Please treat people the way you'd like to be treated. Be respectful of other people's opinions and feelings. Watch out for each other in the online community much like you would in the ‘real world’ neighbourhood. Be kind - Conduct yourself in a civil manner in the online world just like you would in the offline world. If you use any obscene, profane or sexually explicit language or upload content that is violent, racist, abusive, threatening, or slanderous against anyone or any group we will remove your entries form the discussion. Be careful - We can't guarantee the accuracy of all information posted. Always consider any advice carefully before following it. You are responsible for deciding what to do with information posted on the Bicycle Queensland Facebook site. Keep some things to yourself – Don’t post your own or anyone else's personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers, contact information or other personally identifying information. Don’t act like a troll - Please don't post inflammatory messages designed to foster arguments (this is also known as 'trolling'). If you see any of these please don't respond as this will make the situation worse but do report the post to Bicycle Queensland staff. No junk mail please - Our page is not intended for the promotion of third-party services, products, websites or organisations. Don’t post advertising, junk mail, spam, chain letters or any other form of unauthorised advertising. Respect our site – Don’t upload trojan horses, worms, spyware, files, or external links to sites that force the download of any virus, program, spyware or other content or code as it could interfere with the functioning of the site. Be specific - The more specific you can be, the easier it is for someone to follow you. Discussions that veer off topic, are unrelated, are repetitive or campaigning, may be edited or removed. Avoid politics – political discussion on government decisions is probably inevitable, but we don’t want to be debated as it can damage BQ and not achieve much anyway. Bicycle Queensland staff reserve the right to edit, move, lock or delete any message we deem inappropriate or disruptive. Users who persist in violating these guidelines may be barred from posting to this site. Who to contact:

WE TOLD YOU SO.

At BQ's recent Weekend at Pomona our long ride on Saturday was always going to be the most challenging ride of the weekend. With over 1600m of climbing and the final climb being the hardest... it was no walk in the park.

About 75% of riders took on the challenge, and we think most of them are probably happy they did... but many remarked that it was harder than expected.

So - while this ride is under 80km, the climbing doesn't relent. You need intermediate plus fitness and bike skills. With a few kilometres of singletrack, gravel roads, Noosa Biosphere trail and backroads it serves up a real mix of terrain in one big clockwise loop. We thinbk it's a great ride - just pack your snacks and know what to expect.

Ride details and the route file are live on our website. The ride starts and finishes in Pomona.

“The BVRT is gravel for beginners,” Hugh says. “But the true adventure starts once you get up on top of the range.”

Local pride runs deep around Toowoomba, but when we caught up with Hugh Wilson to discuss the Burnett Cycle Trail and gravel routes around Toowoomba and Crows Nest - we also knew he was speaking the truth.

The region atop the range really is a gravel paradise - right here in South East Queensland.

Along with other locals, Hugh has developed a range of resources to help riders discover the riding around Crows Nest and beyond.

All the resources are right on their website.

The humble bike light shouldn't be an afterthought.

If bikes are part of your day-to-day existence like those of us here at BQ, then it is worth making sure the light you use is one for the long haul.

Mike bought an Exposure Joystick in 2024 to update his Exposure Joystick from 2016, and the Mk17 has a boost in output along with a minor increase in size. With a run time from 1.5hrs to 24hrs, bar mounts, helmet mounts, lots of programmable output settings and a rugged design - this is a light that isn't just useful for daily rides, winter commutes and daytime running. It's also been useful on bikepacking trips and any time a bright, rechargeable light could be handy.

Mike put a review of the Joystick together in our latest Ride QLD e-magazine. Take a look and remember, the best light for you may cost a little more, but it will likely look after your for many, many years. Check with your local bike shop for advice.

Brisbane City Council have announced they are adding a much-needed 1.2km section to Brisbane’s growing bikeway network. The new addition will run along Shafston Avenue from Kangaroo Point to East Brisbane.

Importantly, the addition will connect with existing bikeways at both Deakin Street and Mowbray park, delivering not just a safer route to the city – but one that is easier to navigate for new and experienced riders alike.

More details and reactions from BQ are on the BQ website.

Did you head out to ride the new bikeway along Gilchrist Avenue this morning?

Some nuisance rain has delayed the final stretch near the Herston land bridge from opening - the green paint is still drying. It should be good to go this afternoon, weather pending.

At the end close to the hospital some further signage is being installed to assist with navigating through for the first time. Traffic controllers are on hand, and will be able to assist courteous riders to navigate the updates.

The Northern Rivers Rail Trail may well be developing into one of the most popular recreational rides around. And like any rail trail - you don't have to ride the whole thing!

Murwillumbah to Crabbes Creek is an excellent option for the family with plenty of places to stop, snack and explore.

Get all the details over on our Where to Ride page under Family Rides.
