Bicycle Queensland organises Queensland's largest bicycle events such as the Brisbane to the Gold Coast Cycle Challenge, Cycle Queensland, Peaks Challenge Gold Coast, Great Brisbane Bike Ride (includi

ng the Coot-tha Challenge) & Bike Week to help drive our mission. The Bicycle Queensland Facebook and Twitter pages are a place for you to learn about our latest initiatives, hear about our events, share your bike riding experiences, get advice on riding and have a bit of fun. Here are a few guidelines to make sure our Facebook and Twitter sites are a friendly and useful place to visit and search for information. Please keep them in mind. Be nice - Please treat people the way you'd like to be treated. Be respectful of other people's opinions and feelings. Watch out for each other in the online community much like you would in the ‘real world’ neighbourhood. Be kind - Conduct yourself in a civil manner in the online world just like you would in the offline world. If you use any obscene, profane or sexually explicit language or upload content that is violent, racist, abusive, threatening, or slanderous against anyone or any group we will remove your entries form the discussion. Be careful - We can't guarantee the accuracy of all information posted. Always consider any advice carefully before following it. You are responsible for deciding what to do with information posted on the Bicycle Queensland Facebook site. Keep some things to yourself – Don’t post your own or anyone else's personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers, contact information or other personally identifying information. Don’t act like a troll - Please don't post inflammatory messages designed to foster arguments (this is also known as 'trolling'). If you see any of these please don't respond as this will make the situation worse but do report the post to Bicycle Queensland staff. No junk mail please - Our page is not intended for the promotion of third-party services, products, websites or organisations. Don’t post advertising, junk mail, spam, chain letters or any other form of unauthorised advertising. Respect our site – Don’t upload trojan horses, worms, spyware, files, or external links to sites that force the download of any virus, program, spyware or other content or code as it could interfere with the functioning of the site. Be specific - The more specific you can be, the easier it is for someone to follow you. Discussions that veer off topic, are unrelated, are repetitive or campaigning, may be edited or removed. Avoid politics – political discussion on government decisions is probably inevitable, but we don’t want to be debated as it can damage BQ and not achieve much anyway. Bicycle Queensland staff reserve the right to edit, move, lock or delete any message we deem inappropriate or disruptive. Users who persist in violating these guidelines may be barred from posting to this site. Who to contact:

**CLOSING** Birdwood Rd Bridge Petition **CLOSING**
This is your last weekend to sign the petition calling for the construction of the Birdwood Rd Bike Bridge flying the V1 (south east) bikeway over Birdwood Rd. Up until the 2025 budget this project was fully funded and programmed to commence construction, but then it disappeared from the budget with no timeline for delivery. This was after $3.4 million had already been spent on design work. If the project funding is reinstated quickly with the construction timeline recommencing, this existing design work can be utilized but if it is not, it will be $3.4m wasted.

This is not the first time that the LNP - Liberal National Party has cut funding to the project, they also did it back when Campbell Newman was premier.

We encourage you to please sign the petition. Projects like this not only increase the capacity of bikeways but greatly enhance safety by separating people on bike from cars.

See link to petition below in the comments

Have you ventured out to the Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail?

At 89km long it might be too long for many. But like any rail trail you don’t have to ride the whole thing! Kilkivan is a popular base for out and backs, as is Wondai. The end in South Burnett is asphalt, making it a very accessible route.

You can also follow the Link trail through Nanango to connect to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail for an excellent multi-day ride.

Trail details are on our Where to Ride page.

“Getting your kids on a mountain bike is pretty much the best thing any parent can do,” BQ Director of Advocacy Andrew Demack said. “Mountain biking makes you much fitter, and improves strength and hand-eye co-ordination.

“There’s even research which shows that teenagers who are involved in mountain biking develop stronger social and emotional intelligence as a result."

Bicycle Queensland has welcomed plans for the biggest expansion in the history of Smithfield Mountain Bike Park, with more than 62 kilometres of new trails set to reinforce Cairns’ position as one of Australia’s core mountain bike destinations.

More details are on our website.
