He knows what home means. And he knows what it costs when it's taken away.

We're proud to welcome Joel Dry as an ambassador for The Forgotten Women and Live Like Her Challenge.

Joel is a television journalist and presenter, currently co-presenting 9News Queensland's 6pm bulletin alongside Melissa Downes. He's spent his career telling the stories of people and communities that matter and now he's using that platform to shine a light on something that doesn't get nearly enough attention.

Hidden homelessness among older women over 55 is a crisis most people don't see. Joel does. And he's here to help make sure more Queenslanders do too.

As a husband, father and storyteller, Joel understands that home isn't just a roof. It's safety, dignity, and the foundation everything else is built on.

She left the challenge site in tears.

Not because it was hard. Because she got to leave.

Emily-Jade spent the night sleeping rough at the Gold Coast Live Like Her Challenge. She barely slept. She was one of the last to close her eyes and one of the first back on her feet, because she had a radio show to get to.

And when she walked off that site, she went home. Showered. Used her hair dryer. Put on her makeup. Got ready for work like nothing had happened.

That’s when it broke her.

Because older women experiencing homelessness do exactly that too. They wake up early. They find a public bathroom. They get themselves ready for the day in secret, so nobody knows.

Women over 55 are the fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness in Australia. Most people have no idea it looks like this.

These are women who have worked, loved, raised families, and contributed to our communities. And somewhere along the way, a series of life events, a relationship breakdown, a health crisis, a lease not renewed, left them without a safe place to sleep.

They're called the hidden homeless. Because this doesn't always look the way we picture it. It looks like a car. A friend's couch. A place that doesn't feel safe.

Invisible. But real.

The Live Like Her Challenge exists to change that. One night sleeping in your car. Real awareness. Real fundraising. Real housing outcomes for older women who deserve so much more than this.
