Our Intake and Response team (I&R) play a pivotal role in connecting the community to the most suitable service or program. The intakes they receive are varied including women and children escaping domestic violence, those dealing with financial hardship, mental health concerns, and substance and alcohol misuse.

Recently, a woman in her 60s reached out to Encircle after feeling increasingly isolated and overwhelmed by financial stress. Having visited the neighbourhood centre before, she felt safe returning to a calm, respectful space where she could talk openly about her situation.

In a single phone conversation with our I&R Officer Rebecca, she shared how rising costs and growing loneliness were affecting her wellbeing. With Rebeccaโ€™s gentle guidance, the lady explored practical options for immediate financial support and was encouraged to reconnect with community activities she once enjoyed.

Together, they identified pathways that matched her comfort level, including re-engaging with her local neighbourhood centre and considering volunteering in a literacy and numeracy program.

After speaking with Rebecca, the client accessed the support she needed and felt genuine relief and a renewed sense of connection and confidence. Her story is a reminder that sometimes one compassionate conversation can change the direction of someoneโ€™s day, or their whole outlook.

Awesome work Rebecca! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Every day our Homeless Outreach Access Program (HOAP) team works to meet the needs of the Moreton Bay community by providing brief intervention support to those experiencing homelessness in the area.

So far this financial year, the team have spent over 10,000 hours providing support to 1,221 individuals experiencing homelessness in the community.

While we don't often highlight those we support for privacy reasons, below are two recent success stories who were happy to share their experience with the HOAP team.

Robert, pictured with our HOAP Brief Intervention Worker Eustacia, was placed into emergency accommodation with Encircle, with his dog Shadow. Robert and his dog Shadow have since been housed in a public housing tenancy.

Also pictured with our Brief Intervention Worker Angelina, is another family who we assisted with emergency accommodation. We continue to support the family while they wait on a housing outcome.

Thank you Eustacia and Angelina for the work you do providing brief intervention and outreach support for people experiencing homelessness in the Moreton Bay region.

With this week being Volunteer Week, it's the perfect time to share the following story from one of our awesome Encircle Pine Rivers Neighbourhood Centre volunteers.

What began as a simple visit to our Seniors Morning Tea by a community member has turned into something truly special.

Celsie came along hoping to meet new people, and instead found connection, confidence and a renewed sense of purpose.

After feeling welcomed by the group, Celsie began volunteering, helping with activities and supporting others. Over time, her confidence grew, and she stepped into coโ€‘facilitating sessions.

Today, Celsie proudly leads our Book Club and works alongside CD Officer, Pina, to help shape each monthโ€™s Seniors Morning Tea, choosing guest speakers and activities that keep the program fresh, fun and meaningful for everyone who attends.

This collaborative approach has enriched the program and ensured it continues to reflect the interest and wellbeing needs of attending seniors.

Celsie shared this reflection about their journey:

โ€œAs an older person myself, I feel privileged to be playing an active role in a community service organisation like Encircle. My voluntary work gives me a sense of purpose and it is very rewarding to see new friendships being made through these social connections over a cuppa and a chat.

"I am making a real difference in my life and the lives of others. I have always been made very welcome by the staff and other volunteers as my work is appreciated and recognised by everyone.โ€

This story reminds us of the incredible strengths older adults bring to our community, and how one personโ€™s wish to stay connected can blossom into connection, warmth and belonging for many.

This week is National Volunteer Week which is the perfect time to publicly highlight the work our amazing volunteers do.

We have over 100 volunteers working across all areas of Encircle. From front of house, to our gardeners, throughout the various programs, and, of course, in our Food Parcel Team.

Thank you to each and every one of you for everything you do, and the spirit you bring to Encircle, every single day. We couldn't do what we do without you!

Due to the high demand for our services, referrals to Encircleโ€™s Homeless Outreach Access Program (HOAP) and Homestay programs are currently closed until further notice.

This decision has been made to ensure we can prioritise and effectively support existing participants, while also navigating ongoing contract and funding uncertainty.

Alternate service options are listed in the images ๐Ÿ‘‡

We understand this may be challenging and appreciate the communityโ€™s understanding during this time.

Last week, our community came together for a special Candle Lighting Ceremony to remember and honour those who have lost their lives due to Domestic and Family Violence. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Thank you to everyone who attended and stood together in solidarity, reflection, and hope. Events like this are incredibly important as they create space for our community to acknowledge the impact of Domestic and Family Violence, support victim survivors, and remind one another that no one should face violence alone.

A heartfelt thank you to our speakers and special guests for sharing your voices, wisdom, and support:
โ€ข Aunty Sharyn Malone โ€“ Welcome to Country and Candle Lighting Ritual
โ€ข Senior Sergeant Andrew Himstedt โ€“ Moreton District Domestic and Family Violence and Vulnerable Persons Unit, QPS
โ€ข Laurelle Muir
โ€ข Jody Weatherall
โ€ข Ali France MP
โ€ข Councillor Jim Moloney

Your words reminded us of the importance of healing, courage, dignity, hope, and the power of community in creating change.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us in remembering, reflecting, and standing together for safer families and communities. ๐Ÿ’œ
