Our Intake and Response team (I&R) play a pivotal role in connecting the community to the most suitable service or program. The intakes they receive are varied including women and children escaping domestic violence, those dealing with financial hardship, mental health concerns, and substance and alcohol misuse.
Recently, a woman in her 60s reached out to Encircle after feeling increasingly isolated and overwhelmed by financial stress. Having visited the neighbourhood centre before, she felt safe returning to a calm, respectful space where she could talk openly about her situation.
In a single phone conversation with our I&R Officer Rebecca, she shared how rising costs and growing loneliness were affecting her wellbeing. With Rebeccaโs gentle guidance, the lady explored practical options for immediate financial support and was encouraged to reconnect with community activities she once enjoyed.
Together, they identified pathways that matched her comfort level, including re-engaging with her local neighbourhood centre and considering volunteering in a literacy and numeracy program.
After speaking with Rebecca, the client accessed the support she needed and felt genuine relief and a renewed sense of connection and confidence. Her story is a reminder that sometimes one compassionate conversation can change the direction of someoneโs day, or their whole outlook.
Awesome work Rebecca! ๐๐
