Who let the Electric Motor Bikes into OZ
As we know the LNP - Liberal National Party is putting in ridiculous legislation (in the state parliament) to deal with (already) illegal electric motor bikes with the laws unduly impacting on people already sensibly using (legal) e-bikes. What the LNP fails to mention is their party (two parties when south of the border) is responsible for the illegal motor bikes being allowed in the country. Before 2021 illegal electric motor bikes were not permitted in the country. From that date until early this year they came flooding in.
As we have already said before, legel e-bikes are not the problem, illegal electric motor bikes are the problem.

New Farm Riverwalk – maintenance June/July

Council are doing maintenance works on the concrete on the New Farm Riverwalk from Monday 8 June to Friday 24 July between 7am to 4pm Monday to Friday - weather permitting as usual.

The Eastern side of the riverwalk will be closed.

That means sharing with pedestrians - so everyone will need to slow down and be patient while this work is underway over the next few months. You might decide to give that part of the river a wide berth and use the streets around New Farm instead, at least in busier times.

Thanks 🙂

For those that want to travel into the CBD via the path through Barrambin/Victoria Park, this is the current situation as at today. Fencing isn't down to Gilchrist Avenue quite yet - but looks like it will be extended soon, once they get the big concrete barriers finished off to create a separated bidirectional bikeway on Gilchrist.

A couple of pics to show you where this is up to today (Tuesday).

Failing to provide!
Stories like this prove that the LNP - Liberal National Party run Brisbane City Council have failed to adequately provide for Brisbane residents. While we see big flashy headlines about this or that project the fact is people still feel compelled in many cases to drive because there is no other viable option.
If BCC had adequately provided in the form of active & public transport, demand for CBD carparking (and therefore price) would be dropping not rising!

Please sign e-Petition to the Qld Parliament calling for a 30km/h speed limit on neighbourhood streets for safety and livability

The CBD BUG’s good friends at Airport BUG have initiated a petition to the Queensland Government calling for a statewide default speed limit in built-up (residential/local) areas in Queensland of 30kmh, which is the evidence-based safe speed in these back streets. Applying this speed limit would only increase trip times for motorists by a few seconds but would save lives

Globally a 30km/h speed limit is recognised as best practice for residential and high pedestrian areas and has been adopted in cities worldwide. Many “world cities” have seen road injuries significantly reduced and improvements in overall urban safety since introducing 30km/h speed limits.

You can sign this e-petition, which closes 7/9/2026, by visiting - https://www.parliament.qld.gov.au/Work-of-the-Assembly/Petitions/petition-details/4534-26

Again BCC approves Howard Smith mess!
The CBD BUG is disappointed to once again report that BCC has rolled over and approved the further development of Howard Smith Wharves without improving the active transport corridor. This development application was a chance for BCC correct the mistakes of the past but BCC has not stepped up to the plate. Instead of BCC demanding a high capacity & high amenity segregated path, the existing sub-standard shared use path will continue with it's alignment through the site being adjusted to suit the enlarged buildings. You may notice in the Lord Mayor's post he omits to mention active transport.
As stated above the CBD BUG is very disappointed in this outcome. Providing a high capacity, high amenity segregated path would of taken up not more space then the proposed shared use path so we are at a loss as to why BCC did not put the needs of residents before the desires of a private developer.

NB. HSW site is owned by BCC with HSW having a 99year lease on the site

2026 Bicycle Queensland Survey

Bicycle Queensland (BQ) has launched their annual survey, which is open to BQ members and everyone who rides a bike or e-scooter in Queensland.

Survey responses inform BQ's advocacy work, the events they run and the resources and member benefits offered.

It is an anonymous survey, but respondents who want to provide their details go in a random draw for one of the prizes from the $1500 prize pool.

The survey is open until 21 June 2026.

You can expect to spend about 10 minutes completing the survey.

The link to the survey is in the comments section below.

HSW disaster continues
Today Brisbane City Council approved the further development of the Howard Smith Wharves site. What is most disappointing is HSW have not submitted any plans that would improve the existing active transport corridor from the current low capacity, low amenity shared path to a high capacity, high amenity & safe segregated path. It is quite bizarre for the Lord Mayor to claim they have got the design of the development right when the path design is so wrong and does not comply with Transport and Main Roads Queensland guidelines nor the BCC City Plan.
