Join us for an afternoon of hands on gardening and community connection! Register in the bio 🎟️

The garden has grown wild over the winter - and also attracted King’s parrots 🦜and other birds. The abundant tulsi basil, lemon grass and pigeon pea bushes are ideal for chop-and-drop mulch and starting the spring growth cycle. 🔄🌱

We will seed a row of milpa into the cuttings from the overgrown bushes and grasses. Milpa, also called “Three Sisters” is an American First Nations technique of interplanting corn, beans, and pumpkins seamlessly. The corn shoots up while the pumpkin leaves cover the ground so they don’t compete for space or sunlight. Once the corn has grown strong it will offer climbing opportunities to the beans while the beans fix nitrogen from the air and make it available as fertiliser for the other crops. 🌽🎃

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn first-hand how nutrient cycling and companion planting work in a food forest. After the gardening session, we got you sorted with a nice BBQ to munch and chat in between. Please select “yes” if you want to stay for the BBQ when registering!

Expect a rewarding mix of physical work, fresh air, and the satisfaction of contributing to a long-term community agroecology project ☀️. Whether you’re keen to collect a bunch of pigeon peas for your next Dal Tadka, aggressively prune bushes and grasses, spread seeds with care, or simply learn more about regenerative gardening, there’s a place for you!

What to bring:
1. Comfortable clothes for outdoor work
2. Sun protection (hat and sunscreen)
3. Gloves (if you have them)
4. Water bottle (water station available)

Come ready to dig in, learn together, and help grow a future in harmony with nature!
