LIMINAL WORLD
A new season of Art in Transition.

We live in a world of thresholds.

Between languages. Between homelands. Between what was handed down and what is being made new. Between who we were and who we are becoming.

BEMAC’s 2026 season, Liminal World, invites you into that charged in-between space — not as a place of uncertainty or loss, but as a site of extraordinary creative power.

The artists in this season refuse singular categories. They exist, by choice or circumstance, in multiple worlds at once — and their work emerges from that complex, generative navigation.

Through music, movement, image and story, they explore what it means to carry multiple cultures, multiple histories, multiple ways of being, and to make something entirely new from that carrying.

This is art made from the threshold. Work that doesn’t simply represent cultural diversity, but actively participates in the ongoing transformation of what it means to create, to belong, and to become — in contemporary Australia and beyond.

Step into the in-between.

BEMAC's New Home

BEMAC has moved operations to the Thomas Dixon Centre, a leading arts and cultural precinct in the heart of West End.

BEMAC will join fellow arts organisations Queensland Ballet and Ausdance QLD in the heritage listed precinct.

The Thomas Dixon Centre’s facilities include the 350+ seat Talbot Theatre, Kite Terrace, studios, restaurant, cafe, function spaces, and workshop areas.

BEMAC is excited to be taking up residency in the premier arts venue and looks forward to fostering new meaningful partnerships and relationships between artists, organisations and communities.

“Our new base at the Thomas Dixon Centre places us inside a precinct defined by serious, ambitious, world-class practice. Excellence and diversity are not competing values — they are inseparable ones.”
Hannah Attwood, National Arts and Culture Manager, BEMAC and SSI

“From its inception, the vision for the revitalisation of the Thomas Dixon Centre has been to serve as the home of Queensland Ballet while welcoming and supporting the broader cultural sector. Over the years we’ve proudly shared our precinct with organisations such as AusDance, and Little Red Theatre Company, whilst fostering a dynamic environment where artists and creatives can thrive. We are delighted to welcome BEMAC into that community. Their presence further enriches the collaborative spirit of the Centre.”
Dilshani Weerasinghe, Executive Director, Queensland Ballet

“We’re thrilled to have BEMAC join us at the Thomas Dixon Centre, and it’s a pleasure to welcome a team we’ve successfully collaborated with in the past. Their arrival adds to the diversity of organisations already working within the precinct and contributes to the creative energy that makes this place so special. We’re excited about the opportunities for connection that will come from working more closely together.”
Julia Lebiocka, Head of Venue Operations and Engagement, Thomas Dixon Centre

BEMAC’s mission—curating belonging for diverse creative voices across Queensland—doesn’t change. The stage just got a little grander.

Harmony Amidst Destruction

BEMAC is proud to present Harmony Amidst Destruction, an evocative fusion of movement and music that brings a remarkable true story to the stage.

A powerful dance-theatre performance born from the ashes of the Beirut Port explosion, Harmony Amidst Destruction fuses breaking, live music, and raw emotion to explore resilience, loss, and rebirth.

Performed by Middle Eastern artists Roj and Ralph Kabalan, the work transforms pain into beauty. Revealing how art becomes a lifeline amid chaos.

Through explosive movement and haunting soundscapes, the piece invites audiences on a deeply human journey of destruction and hope.

With special opening performance by Say True God?
