Strike a Chord

Strike a Chord is a contemporary Flamenco work built on a live conversation between guitar and body. The guitar does not simply accompany the dancers; it provokes and answers them. Through rhythm, footwork and palmas, the performers move through moments of tension and connection that open onto questions of belonging and authorship.

Directed and choreographed by Pepa Molina who also performs and plays Palmas, the work brings composer and guitarist Marc Van Doornum together with Las Flamenkas a culturally diverse ensemble of dancers: Eliza Cooper, Emilia Hanna, Amari Leiva Urzúa, Anna Rocías Balboa and Sophia Marotta-Fujiwara. Lighting design by Frankie Clarke.

Flamenco grew from the meeting of Romani, Andalusian, Moorish, Jewish and working-class cultures, and migration has shaped it from the very start.

Between Worlds

Between Worlds follows Anna Li through a sequence of six contrasting worlds as she searches for where she belongs.

Live piano, film, projection, dance, and theatrical staging give each world its own atmosphere before it dissolves into the next.

Anna carries traces of every world with her through recurring imagery, colour, and music, and the finale brings them together to suggest that identity is not found in a single destination but discovered in the journey between worlds.

Anna trained for 14 years at The Juilliard School and the Eastman School of Music, and as a dancer with the Royal Academy of Dance. She performs alongside the dancers from the Queensland World Dance Academy, led by Principal Susan Wang, whose choreography moves between classical Chinese dance, contemporary forms and ballet.

OFRENDA 2026 Amor y Memoria

🏵OFRENDA 2026 Amor y Memoria is a transformative Mexican arts and cultural event celebrating Día de Mu***os (Day of the Dead).

Join in celebration of rich and diverse Mexican cultures, where ancestral memory and contemporary artistic practices are woven together. Visual art, storytelling, music, performance, workshops, and traditional cuisine unite around an ‘ofrenda’ (altar/offering) at the centre of festivities.

During Día de Mu***os, ofrendas are created to honour, remember, and welcome home the souls of our loved ones who have departed, keeping their memory alive through photographs, flowers, food, and personal offerings.

🏵OFRENDA 2026’s theme, ‘Amor y Memoria’ (Love and Memory), invites us into a space between two worlds, a liminal place where we can reflect on how love and memory sustain our connection with those who have departed and keep our shared traditions alive.

🏵OFRENDA provides an opportunity for Brisbane/Meanjin’s Mexican diaspora to connect around tradition and for the wider community to appreciate Día de Mu***os as a vibrant, living celebration of contemporary cultural identity rooted in Indigenous cultures.

Raíssa: Live at Melbourne Street Green

Raíssa is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer. Rooted in the rhythms of Brazil and inspired by jazz, Música Popular Brasileira, and contemporary music, she crafts a sound that refuses to fit into a single genre.

Based in Byron Bay, she performs in Portuguese and English, bringing authenticity, groove and emotion to every stage.

With food and drinks available from Storytellers, Live at Melbourne Street Green is the perfect kickstart to your weekend.

Alcides Neto is a Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Drawing inspiration from the folk traditions of his homeland, he offers a fresh perspective on Brazilian music by blending traditional rhythms with contemporary Brazilian influences.

Released in February via Music in Exile Amú features eight original compositions and is a nostalgic yet celebratory journey through the landscapes of Alcides’ homeland, reflecting on the cultural traditions and family connections left behind while looking hopefully towards new horizons.

Amú was warmly received both locally and internationally, earning PBS FM’s Album of the Week, being named one of Bandcamp’s Best Latin Album releases of March 2026, receiving praise from UK label Mr Bongo as “one of the best releases of 2026 so far,” and attracting airplay on Jazz FM and Worldwide FM.

Neto brings the album to the stage with his seven-piece band across three shows this August, with local support acts joining him in each city.
