Grow Together Network - Baroona Farm

Grow Together Network - Baroona Farm We intend to develop our vision of growing food and community through creative partnerships with individuals and organisations.

The Grow Together Network is a growing movement of community farms and garden spaces across the Anglican Church Southern Queensland - cultivating food, connection, sustainability, and communities of welcome. Currently we are partnering with a number of organisations who work primarily with refugees and assylum seekers. Baroona farm provides a place where all people can feel safe to gather in commu

nity, build relationships, grow and share food, and educate others in sustainable farming and living. Baroona Farm acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we farm, the Jagerabul people. We acknowledge their elders past and present with their stewardship of land and water and commit ourselves to continue caring for it with them.

As many in our community are aware, upcoming development works at St Francis College mean that Baroona Farm, in its current form, is coming to an end. Our composting hub at St Francis College will also close on 28 May, and over recent weeks we have begun carefully potting up and preparing plants for their next home.

While this marks the close of an important chapter, it is not the end of the vision.

Over the past years, Baroona Farm has grown into much more than a single site. It has become a place of connection, sustainability, education, care for creation, and community. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has volunteered, composted, donated, learned, supported, and walked alongside us in this journey.

As we move forward, this page is becoming part of the Grow Together Network - helping make way for a growing network of community farms and garden spaces across the Anglican Church Southern Queensland. Through this network we hope to better utilise church-owned land, help feed those experiencing food insecurity, build communities of welcome and inclusion, and play our part in responding to climate change by re-greening our local communities.

Two of the new sites will be based at St John’s Anglican Church, Enoggera (part of Anglican Parish of Greenhills) and Coomera Anglican College/Gold Coast North Anglican parish, with more conversations and possibilities emerging across the wider network.

Thank you for your continued encouragement and support. Seeds planted at Baroona Farm will continue to grow in new places and new communities.

Baroona Farm has gone international! The story of the farm and its significant impact has been shared with an international audience of academics and practitioners at a symposium on sustainability and spirituality at Christ Church University Canterbury, England. The presentation, delivered by Mission chaplain and farm manager, Samuel, was received exceedingly well raising much interest in this unique model of addressing multiple crises of environmental degradation, food insecurity, nutritional vulnerability and social isolation.
Amongst other exceptional presentation was a tour around the university’s sustainability initiatives. They even grow their own hops to be made into their own unique beer!
