Deaf Connect Family Mentors play an important role in helping Deaf and hard of hearing children and families navigate the world and participate fully in their lives and communities.

Family Mentors provide a positive Deaf role model for children and families, supporting early family bonding and nurturing development, communication and growth within the family unit. This role is incredibly rewarding and impactful, working directly with the Deaf and hard of hearing community!

🌟Congratulations to John Flynn – 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List🌟

We’re thrilled to congratulate one of Australia’s pioneering Auslan interpreters, John Flynn, on his appointment as an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List!

John has been recognised for his service to Deaf people, his outstanding contribution to equality, accessibility, and Auslan training and education.

John's work has been instrumental to the Deaf community over many years. From leading Deaf Societies across Australia, working to get Auslan interpreting recognised and accredited by NAATI, to writing and publishing his book 'No Longer by Gaslight' on the history of the first 100 years of the Adult Deaf Society of Victoria.

John recently retired after more than 75 years of service to the community. Today, we celebrate this remarkable national honour and thank him for his dedication over many decades.
