Register for Rowan. Rowan requires a matching stem cell donor to beat Leukaemia. All it takes is a cheek swab to register.

Our aim is to increase the number of stem cell
donor registrants and to educate Australians about the pressing need to register.

So Ironic it is Stem Cell Awareness Week and in the UK they are celebrating the number of new registrants. Here is Australia, we have currently ceased all cheek swabbing recruitment. Appalling situation

💙 Patients are still searching for life-saving matches. Recruitment should not stop.
If you missed it, this weekend’s Courier-Mail and Sunday Mail coverage highlighted the growing impact of suspended community stem cell donor recruitment on patients and families waiting for a match.
While the Australian Government’s tender process for national stem cell donor recruitment remains unresolved, community cheek-swab recruitment has been suspended.
This means school, university and community recruitment events can no longer proceed, and thousands of potential young donors are no longer being reached.
Why does this matter?
Because every stem cell donor who saves a life first has to join the registry.
The suspension of cheek-swab recruitment means: • Recruitment from age 17 through community programs has stopped • People who are not already blood donors are much harder to reach • Large-scale school and community recruitment events can no longer proceed • Thousands of willing potential donors are no longer being reached
For patients like Rowan, who currently has no matching donor on the registry, the person who could save his life may not be on the registry yet.
Every donor who saves a life first had to be recruited.

💙 World Marrow Donor Day

Today we celebrate the people who said “yes”.

Since the beginning of 2025, 16 people recruited through Register for Rowan events have gone on to donate their stem cells to patients somewhere in the world.

Sixteen people who joined the registry.

Sixteen people who answered the call.

Sixteen opportunities for patients to receive a life-saving stem cell transplant.

Over the past three months, Register for Rowan has visited 14 schools across South East Queensland, helping 918 students join Australia’s stem cell donor registry.
