Appeal for Information on Sugar Mill Robberies from Sunshine Sugar

Like so many people and businesses in the Northern Rivers, the local sugar industry has been working hard to recover from the catastrophic flooding in 2022 on what has been a long and costly journey back to full production. There has been a recent spate of attempted and actual robberies at the Broadwater Sugar Mill site, which is not only costing the business money but is impacting the flood recovery program and preparations for the 2024 season. Previously, there have been attempts to steal fuel from the site, and last week, a shed was broken into, and assets estimated to be worth over $80,000 were stolen. These include a utility and trailer, along with power tools and tractor parts.

The utility is a silver crew-cab Mitsubishi Triton, registration EII43R. The trailer is a black box trailer, dual axle, white rims, registration TL06BL.

If anyone in the local community has seen these vehicles or has noticed anything suspicious, we encourage you to reach out to Crime Stoppers Australia on 1800 333 000.
