Yoorala St West Bushcare Group meets fortnightly on Friday mornings at Bill Fursman Crossing to conduct maintenance of the adjacent section of Enoggera creek.

Everyone is welcome to join and no experience or equipment is required. Yoorala Street West bushcare group are restoring the upper area of Enoggera Creek, working from the base of the dam for approximately 2 km downstream to the end of Yoorala St. We’re building on the hard work of Athol Brown who first established the group in 1996 and over the years has conducted extensive removal of rubbish and community plantings. The creek is currently in need of the removal of invasive vines and other exotic w**ds along with the commencement of replacement plantings for the large number of camphor laurels and chinese elms which currently provide the canopy. The group meets at the park adjacent to Bill Fursman Crossing every fortnight on a Friday. All are welcome to join with no experience or equipment being required - just some enthusiasm and a desire to look after our beautiful creek. Please send an email and get in touch.

🌿 Yoorala Street Working Bee – Friday 16 October

Join us from 8.00 am to 10.00 am as we head further into the SEQ Water site - this week under Janet’s direction.

Meet at Fursman Crossing Park (opposite 135 Yoorala St) and walk in. Or, you can also drive through the SEQ Water entrance off Waterworks Road, but please be at the gate promptly at 8.00 am, as it cannot be left open.

There’s plenty of w**ding to tackle, but the site is looking amazing—the growth rates have been excellent!

Please bring water, a hat and suitable clothing. Everyone is welcome.

🌿 Yoorala Street Bushcare – Friday 2 October 🌿

Our last session delivered a fantastic result! We welcomed two new volunteers and removed a substantial patch of syngonium from the lower section of Fursman Crossing Park.

This Friday, we’ll head across the bridge towards the SEQ Water site and work around the older rainforest section.

🌿 Yoorala Street Bushcare this Friday 4 Sep!

Join us from 8–10am, meeting at Fursman Crossing Park, opposite 135 Yoorala St. Janet will lead the working bee this week while Ed is away, and it’s time to give the SEQ Water site some attention.

Running late? Cross the bridge and turn right towards the dam. If Janet’s car isn’t at the meeting point, don’t worry—she may have driven directly into the SEQ Water site.

We’ll wrap up at 10am with morning tea. ☕🌱

And an update from Yoorala Street East: Ed and Bob Whiteman recently joined a small corporate group for a fantastic day in the park. Together, they finished w**ding the 2022 “3,000 plants” planting and planted the remainder of the border. The site now looks amazing!

🌿 Yoorala Street Bushcare – This Friday! 🌿

Join us this Friday, 24 July, from 8:00–10:00 am as we continue restoring this fantastic section of Enoggera Creek.

📍 Meet at Fursman Crossing Park, opposite 135 Yoorala Street, The Gap.

This week we'll be working in the vicinity of the park, with the exact location to be decided on the day depending on where we're needed most. There are still plenty of w**ds to tackle, and every volunteer helps make a real difference.

It's been wonderful to see the site continuing to improve, with native plants thriving thanks to the efforts of our amazing volunteers. Thank you to everyone who has been coming along—we're seeing the results of your hard work!

🌳 Don't forget – National Tree Day is this Sunday, 26 July (10:00 am–2:00 pm)!

Come along to Save Our Waterways Now (SOWN) and Paten Park Native Nursery (PPNN) for a fun day out with family and friends. There'll be plenty happening, including:
🐟 Presentations by Steven Baines on native fish and aquatic health.
🦇 Meet the team from Bat Conservation & Rescue Qld and learn more about our amazing flying foxes.
🌱 Explore the nursery, enjoy the activities, and celebrate National Tree Day with us.

🌿 Yoorala Street Bushcare – This Friday! 🌿

Join us this Friday, 10 July, from 8:00–10:00 am for our next Yoorala Street Bushcare session.

📍 Meet at Fursman Crossing Park, opposite 135 Yoorala Street.

Janet will be leading the team this week - into the SEQ Water site. The site is looking amazing! 🌱 The trees are putting on excellent growth, but we need to keep up the battle against the glycine before it gets away from us.

Have you seen SOWNs social media post this week about the native slender grape? 🍇 One of our sites downstream of the Lendlease planting is bursting with natural regeneration. An area once dominated by yellow bells and Chinese elm is now producing masses of naturally regenerating Macaranga seedlings. Even better, the native slender grape is growing so strongly that it's helping suppress w**ds all on its own. It's a fantastic reminder of what can happen when we give our local bushland a helping hand.

Whether you're a regular volunteer or joining us for the first time, we'd love to see you there. Every pair of hands makes a difference!

🌿 Yoorala Street Bushcare – This Friday! 🌿

Join us this Friday, 26 June, from 8:00am–10:00am at Fursman Crossing, The Gap, as we continue our fight against Ochna and Balloon Vine.

We made fantastic progress last session and will be pushing further towards the SEQ Water boundary to finish the job!

Excitingly, our trail cameras have recently captured a Bobuck Possum (Mountain Brushtail Possum) in the area. These unusual Brisbane residents are a reminder of the incredible wildlife that benefits from our restoration work. 🐾

Don't forget to keep an eye out on Wednesday too, as our corporate volunteer team helps expand the restoration area with more planting and site improvements.

🌿💪 **Yoorala Street Bushcare – This Friday!** 💪🌿

Join us this **Friday, 12 June, from 8:00am–10:00am** as we continue restoring the beautiful rainforest along Enoggera Creek.

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our volunteers, we made great progress at our last session. This week we'll continue the battle against **Balloon Vine**, moving into the original infestation site.

To find us, cross the bridge and turn right—we'll be working a little further into the rainforest than usual.

It's a great opportunity to get some fresh air, meet like-minded people and make a real difference to local wildlife habitat.

🌿 Bushcare Update & Next Working Bee! 🌿

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone for the incredible effort at our last session. We made a huge dent into the w**ds at Yoorala St East, and the site is looking absolutely great! We may need to revisit the area again in a few sessions, but it's looking secure and will be perfectly okay for a while.

This week, we are turning our attention to a different spot! Our next working bee is coming up this Friday, 29 May, and we’d love to see you there.

We’ll be meeting at Fursman Crossing Park. We are still focusing our efforts on tackling balloon vine, asparagus fern, and glycine, but this time we'll be working towards the SEQ site.

⏱️ Running late? No worries! Just cross the bridge and head towards the Reservoir. We won't be far and should be easy to spot.

🌿 Bushcare this Friday 15 May: Protecting the Perimeter! 🌿

It’s time for our next working bee, and we’re heading back to a very special spot. Four years ago, we put 3,000 plants into the ground at Yoorala Street, and the transformation has been incredible! Those natives have done an amazing job of protecting the park's perimeter and creating a thriving habitat.

The heavy w**d growth of previous years is finally slowing down, but we have a new challenge: Glycine and Desmodium vines are creeping in. We need a team effort to clear them out before they start smothering our hard work!

Whether you’re a regular or looking to try Bushcare for the first time, come along and see what a few years of growth looks like.
