Yoorala St Bushcare Group

Yoorala St Bushcare Group Yoorala St West Bushcare Group meets fortnightly on Friday mornings at Bill Fursman Crossing to conduct maintenance of the adjacent section of Enoggera creek.

Everyone is welcome to join and no experience or equipment is required. Yoorala Street West bushcare group are restoring the upper area of Enoggera Creek, working from the base of the dam for approximately 2 km downstream to the end of Yoorala St. We’re building on the hard work of Athol Brown who first established the group in 1996 and over the years has conducted extensive removal of rubbish and

community plantings. The creek is currently in need of the removal of invasive vines and other exotic w**ds along with the commencement of replacement plantings for the large number of camphor laurels and chinese elms which currently provide the canopy. The group meets at the park adjacent to Bill Fursman Crossing every fortnight on a Friday. All are welcome to join with no experience or equipment being required - just some enthusiasm and a desire to look after our beautiful creek. Please send an email and get in touch.

🌿💪 **Yoorala Street Bushcare – This Friday!** 💪🌿

Join us this **Friday, 12 June, from 8:00am–10:00am** as we continue restoring the beautiful rainforest along Enoggera Creek.

📍 **Meet at Fursman Crossing**, opposite **135 Yoorala Street, The Gap**.

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of our volunteers, we made great progress at our last session. This week we'll continue the battle against **Balloon Vine**, moving into the original infestation site.

To find us, cross the bridge and turn right—we'll be working a little further into the rainforest than usual.

It's a great opportunity to get some fresh air, meet like-minded people and make a real difference to local wildlife habitat.

☕ **Morning tea provided afterwards!**

Whether you're a regular volunteer or joining us for the first time, we'd love to see you there.

🌱 No experience necessary.
🌱 Tools and gloves provided.
🌱 New volunteers always welcome.

🌿 Bushcare Update & Next Working Bee! 🌿

First of all, a massive thank you to everyone for the incredible effort at our last session. We made a huge dent into the w**ds at Yoorala St East, and the site is looking absolutely great! We may need to revisit the area again in a few sessions, but it's looking secure and will be perfectly okay for a while.

This week, we are turning our attention to a different spot! Our next working bee is coming up this Friday, 29 May, and we’d love to see you there.

We’ll be meeting at Fursman Crossing Park. We are still focusing our efforts on tackling balloon vine, asparagus fern, and glycine, but this time we'll be working towards the SEQ site.

⏱️ Running late? No worries! Just cross the bridge and head towards the Reservoir. We won't be far and should be easy to spot.

📅 The Details:
When: This Friday, 29 May

Time: 8:00 am – 10:00 am (followed by a well-deserved morning tea! ☕🍰)

Where: Fursman Crossing Park, The Gap (opposite 135 Yoorala St)

See you all on Friday!

🌿 Bushcare this Friday 15 May: Protecting the Perimeter! 🌿

It’s time for our next working bee, and we’re heading back to a very special spot. Four years ago, we put 3,000 plants into the ground at Yoorala Street, and the transformation has been incredible! Those natives have done an amazing job of protecting the park's perimeter and creating a thriving habitat.

The heavy w**d growth of previous years is finally slowing down, but we have a new challenge: Glycine and Desmodium vines are creeping in. We need a team effort to clear them out before they start smothering our hard work!

Whether you’re a regular or looking to try Bushcare for the first time, come along and see what a few years of growth looks like.

🗓 When: Friday, 15 May
⏰ Time: 8:00 am – 10:00 am (Stick around for morning tea after!)
📍 Where: 98 Yoorala St, The Gap.
🚗 Parking: Park at the Men’s Shed / Community Garden. You’ll see us set up in the park.

Gloves and tools provided—just bring a hat, water, and your enthusiasm. See you in the park! Save Our Waterways Now

We’re back this Friday - 1 May - at Yoorala St Bushcare! 🌿

After a few missed sessions thanks to Easter and other commitments, it’s time to get stuck back in. We’ll be meeting as usual in the park opposite 135 Yoorala St, then heading over to the “Lendlease planting” area. Cross the bridge and head downstream.

The good news — the natives are thriving. The other news… the w**ds are too! Plenty to get into as we work to bring the area back under control.

🕗 8:00am start
☕ Wrap up around 10:00am with a well-earned morning tea (home baking included!)

Come along for a great couple of hours in the bush and help make a real difference.

See you there!

🌿 **Yoorala St Bushcare – Friday 20 March** 🌿

Looking for a great way to spend a couple of hours outdoors while helping care for local bushland? Come along and join the **Yoorala St Bushcare Group** this **Friday 20 March**!

📍 **Meeting Point:** Fursman Crossing (opposite 135 Yoorala St, The Gap)
🕗 **Time:** 8:00 – 10:00am

This week we’ll be working over on the **SEQ Water site**, giving the area a good tidy-up and focusing on removing invasive **glycine** that’s spreading through the bushland. Clearing it out helps our native plants and wildlife reclaim the space.

No experience needed—just bring a hat, water bottle and closed shoes. It’s a friendly and relaxed morning, and a great way to get outdoors while doing something positive for the local environment.

☕ **Morning tea provided** at the end of the session, so stick around for a chat once the work is done.

Everyone is welcome—come along and help keep this beautiful corner of The Gap thriving! 🌱

🌧️ Bushcare is still on Friday, 28 Nov!

Hope everyone’s survived the recent storms — and with more wild weather on the way, we’ll be keeping an eye on conditions. But we’re still meeting at Fursman Crossing, 8–10am.

We’ll assess the site on the day (storm debris, hanging branches, etc.) and work where it’s safe. Signs will be out as usual.

We’ll also have a special morning tea as we farewell Pheby before she heads back to China.

See you there! 🌿✨
