🖤💛❤️ Today we stand with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, acknowledging the profound pain and ongoing grief caused by the forced removal of children from their families. The Stolen Generations.

Grief for a child, whether through loss, separation, or removal, is one of the deepest a person can carry. We recognise that grief. We sit with it.

We acknowledge the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors, their families, and communities who continue to fight for truth, healing, and justice. Today is about reflection, respect, and commitment to a better future.

"I value the opportunity to be involved as a volunteer mentor for Ladybird Care because it is a practical and effective way to support parents through the grief they experience after the death of a child.

No one understands how parents feel and what they have to face better than another person who has also lost a child."

Ganesh is one of our wonderful volunteer Peer Mentors and we asked him to share some words:

I am a bereaved father who has lost two children.

Ladybird has provided me an opportunity to share my stories and experiences with a Mentee who is in similar grieving process — and in turn, to hear theirs. Ladybird equipped me with relevant training & support to make the connection with my Mentee meaningful.

As a Peer Mentor with Ladybird Care Foundation, Ganesh draws on his lived experience to connect alongside a Mentee who is navigating their own journey of loss - offering the kind of understanding that only comes from truly knowing.

This is what our volunteers give. Not just their time — but their stories, their strength, and their hope.

Volunteers show up in so many ways — and Toni from is a beautiful example of that.

Toni has graciously volunteered their time, their bus, their driver, and their fuel for a number of our community events, including our recent Day Out.

These are not fundraisers.
They are community events. 💛

Showing up for our community in a beautiful way, making space for friendship, laughs, memories, and shared experiences.

✨ Meet Haidee ✨

Haidee first came to Ladybird Care Foundation as a Mentee. Today, she gives back as a Mentor - and her journey speaks for itself.

I was referred to Ladybird Card Foundation at a time when I felt lost, with grief that seemed impossible for others to understand after the death of my son, Harper.

I was paired with my Mentor, Jess, and from the beginning, it felt like the perfect match. She gave me a space where I felt truly seen, heard, and safe - where I could share my story without needing to filter, explain or worry about its impact on others.

Jess walked beside me in my grief. She helped me honour memories and navigate milestones, but just as importantly, she was there to talk about life - real, everyday life that continues alongside loss.

Because of that experience, I chose to become a Mentor myself. I wanted to give back. I wanted to ensure that no mother has to walk alone through the depths of grief and darkness. I wanted to use my grief story to help bring some light to others"

✨ Meet Jelena ✨

This woman. Where do we even begin? 🩷

Jelena is one of our incredible Ladybird Care Foundation ambassadors, and alongside her mum Sue and a wonderful team of helpers, she pours her heart into raising awareness and funds for our organisation. Together, they are an unstoppable team.

From crafting beautiful cards and wheat bags, to creating a cookbook, to hosting their beloved annual Go Dotty Day Tea – Jelena's dedication knows no bounds.

For those who attended our 2025 Gala, you will never forget the moment Jelena made her entrance in the most extraordinary flower dress – lovingly handcrafted by volunteers, because of course it was! 😉 Each flower was then sold throughout the night, raising even more funds for Ladybird Care.

Through her passion and generosity, Jelena – together with Sue and their incredible helpers – has helped raise thousands of dollars that go directly back into the important work of Ladybird Care Foundation.

This Volunteer Week, we're shining a light on the incredible people who make our Peer Mentoring Program possible. Volunteers like Celisa, who walks alongside bereaved parents with compassion, lived experience, and heart.

When we asked Celisa to share something of her experience, here's what she said:

What draws me to Ladybird?

It’s walking alongside other people as we walk collectively through our own grief journey’s, bringing some sunshine, connection, conversations and support amongst the stormy days.

What a beautiful way to capture what our Peer Mentors do every single day.
No bereaved parent should have to walk this journey alone, and thanks to volunteers like Celisa, they don't have to.
