Malawi bows out of the ongoing AFCON Qld football tournament following an unexpected defeat at the hands of Somalia.

The Somali regiment was visibly jittery at the sight of the Malawi contingent, recounting their 7-0 thrashing by the Malawi side at a pre-tournament strength testing match played 3 weeks earlier.

However, they put up a good fight on the pitch, blocking every attempt by the Malawi side - and their attack in the first 10 minutes of the second half got them a free kick just outside of the ‘18 yard box’. A mid strength grass cutter bubbled and went past the Malawi goalkeeper who stretched himself long to no avail.

The team regroups next week to start playing friendly games as a way of rebuilding for the next AFCON Qld tournament.

Thank you for representing Malawi. 🇲🇼
