We wish to inform the community that the memorial service for the late Jongkuch Kur Jongkuch will be held at St Paul’s Anglican Church, 124 Brisbane Street, Ipswich, on 22 August 2026.

Following the service, the burial will take place at Goodna Cemetery.

Death Announcement of Uncle Alier Deng Lual in India with a long illness.

Dear members of the Deng Lual family, friends and the Biong community worldwide,

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Uncle Alier Deng Lual in India this evening at around 5:00 p.m. East African Time (EAT).

Further updates regarding the arrival of his body in Juba will be communicated tomorrow after consultations with the family members.

Death Announcement

Dear Biong Community in Australia and across the globe,

It is with a deeply saddened heart that I inform you of the passing of Jongkuch Peter Kur Jongkuch Achieu in Queensland, Australia. Jongkuch was attacked by unknown individuals, and despite medical efforts, he tragically succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Saturday, 1 August 2026.

The matter remains under active police investigation, and his body is currently with the Coroners for further examination. This is a life cut far too short, and a loss felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him.

On behalf of the family, I extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, the Queensland Police Service, the doctors, nurses, and all medical practitioners who worked tirelessly from the moment of the incident on Sunday, 25 July 2026. Your professionalism, compassion, and dedication have been a source of strength to the family during an unimaginably difficult period.

We also acknowledge and thank every individual who has supported the family since that day through presence, prayers, messages, and practical assistance. Your solidarity has been deeply felt.

Our police officers are often the first to confront trauma in our Australian society, and on behalf of the family, extended family and friends, I express our sincere appreciation for their service and continued efforts in this matter.

Biong Community, together with South Sudanese people of South Australia, farewelled our brother, uncle, father, and SPLA hero, Major Lual Tiel, today. We mourn the passing of a man whose life embodied courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to peace and unity. Biong Community and South Sudan have lost an icon, a pillar of strength whose legacy will continue to guide us. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
