πŸ’™ We're still here.

Yesterday I had a conversation with former Community Plus Chair Bec Langdon that really stuck with me.

Following the closure of our Community Recovery and Resilience Program, Bec shared that she had been looking for a message from us that said something simple:
"Community Plus is still here for our community in preparedness and recovery."
And she's right.

While the program has ended, our commitment to helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from challenges hasn't gone away.
As we head towards another disaster season in Brisbane, we're continuing to strengthen our preparedness work. We're updating disaster management plans across our neighbourhood centres, working alongside local resilience groups, partnering with Resilience Canopy, and remaining an active founding member of the Brisbane Neighbourhood Centres Disaster Network.

If our communities face another flood, storm or emergency, our centres will continue to be trusted places where people can find information, support, connection and practical help.

For us, resilience has never just been a project or a funding stream.
It's the work of building strong relationships, connected neighbourhoods, local leadership and communities that know how to look after one another when times get tough.
That work continues every day at Community Plus.
And we're not going anywhere. ❀️

A shared meal. A warm welcome. A place to belong. πŸ’›

On Tuesday, our Yeronga Neighbourhood Centre community lunch brought neighbours together to share a meal, enjoy good conversation and strengthen the connections that make our community so special.

These lunches happen because of the dedication of our incredible NCC alongside our volunteers, who create a welcoming space where everyone has a seat at the table. Their generosity helps turn an ordinary lunch into something much more meaningful.

August 3rd through 9th is Loneliness Awareness Week and we're reminded just how important these moments are. With this year's theme, Make Room for Connection, we're celebrating the everyday places and people who help build belonging.

Research from Ending Loneliness Together found that half of people living in Australia experience some form of social disconnection, while participating in community activities can reduce the risk of loneliness and social isolation by 89%.

At Yeronga Neighbourhood Centre, creating opportunities to connect isn't something we do just for one week, it's something we do every week of the year.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on Tuesday, and to our amazing staff and volunteers for making these lunches, and the connections they create, possible. πŸ’›
