Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section

Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting s

omeone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

Last month, our Far North Mental Health and Wellbeing team had the privilege of supporting the Blue Tree Project community event in Normanton. πŸŒ³πŸ’™πŸ–ŒοΈ

More than 150 locals attended to help paint the tree, hear inspiring speeches, and enjoy a day of wholesome activities in support of mental health.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, including Warren Davies - The Unbreakable Farmer who shared messages of resilience and the importance of looking out for one another.

Together, we've created a lasting reminder in the heart of Normanton to start conversations, support one another, and prioritise mental health and wellbeing.

Last week, we opened the RFDS Clermont Clinic in response to a shortage of local GP services, helping ensure residents can access quality healthcare in their own community.

The response has been incredible. In just the first week, our team saw 74 patients. That's 74 people who may otherwise have had to travel long distances to see a GP and who can now receive care closer to home. πŸ©ΊπŸ’™

We're proud to be working alongside Northern Queensland PHN to deliver this essential service and improve access to healthcare for the Clermont community.

Emergency road airstrip in action! πŸ›¬

When our Charleville crew were tasked to a late-night aeromedical retrieval, the Birdsville East Road airstrip was the closest and most suitable location to reach the patient.

So, the team at the Betoota Hotel sprang into action, closing the road and lighting the way for the Flying Doctor to land.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping us reach this patient safely. We couldn't do what we do without the unwavering support of our communities. πŸ’™

Cockpit views never get old. πŸ›¬

RFDS aircraft VH-FDS (Drover) arrives into Hervey Bay on a mission to transfer a patient to Brisbane for specialist care.

Named by public vote in 2024, Drover honours our longstanding partnership with Brisbane Airport and the first purpose-built RFDS aeromedical aircraft that served Queensland communities in the late 1940s.

Every flight helps connect regional, rural and remote Queenslanders with the healthcare they need, when they need it most. πŸ’™
