Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section

Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section The Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) has been saving lives in regional, rural and remote communities for 96 years.

In addition to aeromedical retrievals, the RFDS also delivers essential primary and preventative healthcare services. Established in Queensland in 1928 by the Reverend John Flynn, the RFDS has grown to become the world’s largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisation. Today the RFDS delivers more than 370,000 episodes of patient care across Australia every year – equivalent to assisting s

omeone every two minutes. In Queensland, the RFDS provides healthcare services over an area of 1.73 million square kilometres from nine strategically located bases in Cairns, Townsville, Mount Isa, Charleville, Longreach, Roma, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Brisbane. These services are delivered via a fleet of 20 medically equipped aeromedical aircraft. And with some of the world’s most highly trained and skilled aviation and medical staff, the RFDS is incredibly well positioned to uphold our promise to deliver the finest care to the furthest corner of the state.

Turns out the real gold is right here 🌈

Under this perfect rainbow sits our Brisbane Base – a place where critical decisions are made, flights are coordinated from our Operations Control Centre, aircraft are maintained, and patients from across the state are linked to emergency medical care.

None of this would be possible without our longstanding partnership with Brisbane Airport — a collaboration that continues to strengthen the way we deliver world-class aeromedical services to Queenslanders

Together, our partnership bridges the gap in healthcare ensuring help is always in reach. 💙

Today on Thank a First Responder Day, we’re shining a light on the incredible people behind our missions – including RFDS Flight Nurse Izzy. ✈️🩺💙

In this video, Izzy shares her recent experience responding to a Priority One tasking after a mother was struck by an 800kg cow while working in the cattle yards. As the crew flew out to retrieve her, they prepared medications and equipment to stabilise her before flying her to hospital.

Today, we thank all first responders like Izzy for their courage, compassion and unwavering commitment to keeping Queenslanders safe.

Did you know, those on the land have been contributing to the RFDS (Queensland Section) just by purchasing from the agricultural company FMC Australia and New Zealand . 🌱♥️

A percentage of sales of the Graslan Social product goes towards keeping the Flying Doctor flying. ✈️

Shout out to FMC’s Andrew Burrows who recently handed over a cheque of $36,500 to our Townsville Base Support Manager Gail Hills.

Over the past six years, FMC has donated more than $260,000 to the RFDS (Queensland Section).

Thanks to everyone at FMC for your ongoing support. 🙏

A lovely afternoon at Picnic with the Planes – RFDS Bundaberg Base! ✈️

The community came out in full force on Saturday to meet our crews, tour the Aeromedical Training Academy, climb into the cockpit of our aeromedical simulator and enjoy an unforgettable afternoon among the aircraft.

A huge thank you to our event sponsors The Waves Sports Club, Carve Industries, Black Lab Finance and JRZ Homes for helping make the day such a success. 💙

We also thank Woolworths for providing free fruit and drinks, and Isuzu UTE Australia with the Isuzu D-MAX for helping make the aeromedical simulator’s journey to Bundaberg possible.

$800,000 that will change lives across outback Queensland. 🙌

Ridewest is the biennial bike ride that sees riders take on the incredible challenge of cycling from Brisbane to Longreach in just eight days, all while raising essential funds for the RFDS Wellbeing Out West program. 🧡🖤

Thanks to everyone who supported this charity ride, RideWest has raised record-breaking funds that will deliver free mental health education, one-on-one counselling, and vital support services to people in rural and remote communities across western Queensland.

To the entire RideWest community, thank you!

When Jess was struck by an 800kg cow, her only chance of survival was to call the Flying Doctor.

Jess was unable move, struggling to breathe, and was a 12-hour drive away from the nearest hospital.

Thanks to the quick response from our aeromedical crew, Jess was stabilised with her family by her side and flown to hospital.

“As soon as the wheels lifted off, I just thought ‘I’m going to be okay now. I will live.’”

Every donation made before 30 June helps equip our new aircraft with ICU-level care so wherever we land, we can save lives just like Jess’s. ✈️

This Philanthropy Week, we’re celebrating the incredible impact of the support provided by Allan and Lyn Davies 💙

For more than 15 years, Allan and Lyn, through the Dalara Foundation, have stood beside the RFDS to help ensure people in rural and remote Queensland can access life-saving care when it matters most.

Their generosity is supporting the next generation of flight nurses, strengthening care in the bush and bringing peace of mind to families across Queensland.

“Midwifery is vitally important because when babies are born out in the bush there can be emergency situations which require quick action, and if you are a long way from help, you are very grateful for this service,” Lyn shared.

Learn more about how their funds support the dreams of Queensland nurses 👉 https://rfds.co/4uVeiEc

Thank you, Allan and Lyn, for your unwavering support and belief in the power of giving.

This week marks National Reconciliation Week, a time to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and explore how we can contribute to achieving reconciliation.

This year's theme 'All In’ reminds us that reconciliation will not happen by itself and will not happen without our shared commitment to make change.

With almost half of RFDS patients identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples, we’re committed to partnering with communities to strengthen relationships, gain cultural understanding and honour our connections to Country.
