An exciting milestone for the sector, positive results have emerged from a clinical trial of a melanoma drug designed to target a patient’s specific tumour. The treatment has been shown to reduce the risk of the cancer returning for patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma, making a significant advance in personalised medicine. It is the first personalised treatment of its kind to achieve positive results in a Phase 3 INTerpath-001 trial.
Top line results from the international Phase 3 INTerpath-001 clinical trial represent a landmark moment for adjuvant melanoma treatment.
Melanoma Institute Australia participated in this trial, with Professor Georgina Long AO as Principal Investigator. During this trial, patients with resected stage IIB-IV melanoma were treated with intismeran, a personalised mRNA-based therapy designed around the unique profile of a patient’s own tumour, given with pembrolizumab versus pembrolizumab alone.
“This is the first Phase 3 study to show that intismeran, a treatment based on the unique mutational ‘fingerprint’ of a patient’s own tumour, given in combination with pembrolizumab can reduce the risk of recurrence or death in patients with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma compared to pembrolizumab alone.
