This week, Deaf Space celebrates Deaf people, Auslan, Deaf Culture, Identity, community, choice and the right to fully participate in society
Human rights are not something Deaf people should have to continually ask for.
They include the right to:
- communicate in our own chosen language
- access quality education
- live with choice, autonomy and signity
- participate in employment and community life
- access information
- be included in decisions that affects us
-experience and celebrates our Deaf culture and,
-Belong- without having to change who we are.
Deaf Space exists because Deaf people deserves spaces where communication, connection, and choice are built in, not treated as an after thought.
This National Week fo Deaf People, we stand with all of our Deaf Community to celebrate our language, our culture, our rights and our future.
Today's question for you to reflect. " What does language access mean to you". Feel free to comment below or reflect in your own space.
