Recognition is earned. Influence is built. Legacy is sustained.

Last night , Kenyans in Queensland (KIQ) was honoured with formal recognition from the Queensland Government for our contribution to the state's multicultural success story. We accept this recognition with humility, but also with confidence in what it represents: a community that has consistently converted talent, resilience, and collective action into measurable social impact.

KIQ is more than a diaspora organisation. It is a platform for community capital.

We bring together professionals, entrepreneurs, students, families, and leaders. We invest in welfare, mentorship, cultural preservation, leadership development, professional networking, youth empowerment, and community advocacy. Most importantly, we ensure that no Kenyan stands alone during times of crisis or celebration.

The Kenyan community continues to punch above its weight across Queensland. In boardrooms, hospitals, classrooms, government agencies, research institutions, small businesses, and community organisations, Kenyans are creating value, solving problems, and contributing to Queensland's economic and social prosperity. This recognition reflects those collective achievements.

The words of the Australian National Anthem remain especially meaningful:
"For those who've come across the seas, we've boundless plains to share."
As Australians of Kenyan heritage, we see this not merely as a lyric, but as a social contract. We came from afar, embraced opportunity, and found a place to belong. In return, we contribute, build, serve, and strengthen the communities around us.

We thank Premier The Hon. David Crisafulli MP and Minister for Multicultural Affairs The Hon. Fiona Simpson MP for recognising the positive contribution of migrant communities and for championing a Queensland where diversity is viewed as a strategic advantage, not merely a demographic reality.

This award belongs to every Kenyan who volunteered, mentored, donated, supported a family in need, opened a door for someone else, or proudly represented our community with excellence.
