This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield unveiled its beautiful Sunflower Sphere, a permanent tribute to those whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

Each sunflower on the sphere tells a story. It may honour someone who has faced cancer, undergoing treatment or a loved one remembered. Together, these tributes create a powerful symbol of hope and remembrance for the patients and families who visit the centre every day.

This project was made possible thanks to Jenny Jenner from the Kalbar Sunflowers Festival , whose vision inspired local artists Wendy and Rob Badke to design and handcraft the sculpture, and Hali from Scenic Rim Trophies Boonah, who carefully engraved each plaque. Mater Foundation is also grateful to local patient and business owner Chris from Snap Fitness - Redbank Plains, whose sponsorship helped bring the project to life.

At just 33 years old, Louise had finished breastfeeding her daughter when she noticed a lump.

After booking an appointment with her doctor, testing revealed Louise had Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC), an aggressive form of breast cancer. It was something she never imagined.

“The experience of being diagnosed with breast cancer was very intense. My first thought was, ‘How can this happen? I am so young and I have no family history.’ I worried about my daughter.”

What followed was a whirlwind of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, all while navigating life as a young mum.

There were days when Louise struggled to get out of bed, but she credits the unwavering support of her family, friends and Mater care team with helping her through.

Today, Louise is cancer free and looking to the future with hope, purpose and plans for the years ahead.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, she's sharing her story to help raise awareness and support other women facing a diagnosis. 💗

Last week, over 70 women came together for The Brisbane Golf Club's Pink Day, organised by Anne Clifton, raising an incredible $2,665 for Mater Chicks in Pink. 💗

Every dollar raised helps fund breast cancer research and support services for women affected by breast cancer.
