Our recent World Environment Day Lunch in Noosa was featured on 7NEWS Australia, helping bring an important industry conversation into the spotlight: regenerative tourism.

As travellers seek more meaningful and sustainable experiences, tourism has an opportunity to do more than minimise its footprint. Regenerative tourism is about giving back, treading lightly and ensuring the places we visit are left better than we found them.

At this year's event, industry leaders explored how tourism can help restore natural environments, strengthen communities and create a more resilient future for Queensland.

If your business uses terms like “sustainable”, “eco-friendly” or “green”, there’s an important regulatory change coming.

From September 2026, new European consumer protection rules will require all environmental and sustainability claims to be clearly evidenced and backed by recognised third-party verification. These rules apply to any business marketing to European consumers, including Queensland tourism operators.

To help operators prepare, EarthCheck in partnership with QTIC has developed a practical guide tailored to our industry. It explains:
✅ What’s changing
✅ What claims may be considered high risk
✅ How to ensure your messaging is accurate and supported

With greater scrutiny from regulators and booking platforms, now’s the time to review your sustainability messaging and ensure it stands up to scrutiny 👉 https://hubs.la/Q04k__r00

More than 140 committed tourism and industry leaders joined us in Noosa for our World Environment Day Lunch this week.

Together, we explored how regenerative tourism can create positive outcomes for people, place and planet, and what it means to move from commitment to practice in shaping a more sustainable future.

As Queensland looks ahead to major opportunities, including Brisbane 2032, the balance between growth and environmental stewardship has never been more important. Our tourism success is built on extraordinary natural assets. From beaches and reefs to rainforests, national parks and unique wildlife. Protecting these places is essential for future generations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to the discussion. Relive the day through our event gallery 📸 https://hubs.la/Q04k--_W0

Last month, the QTIC team attended the Queensland Small Business Expo, connecting with operators from across the state and discussing the realities of running a small business in today's environment.

From workforce challenges to growth opportunities, it was valuable to hear firsthand about the issues shaping the small business community and to share information about the support available through QTIC.

Alongside a program of panel discussions and exhibitors, our team was also on the exhibition floor throughout the day, meeting with operators and hearing their perspectives.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by for a chat!🌟

In a positive advocacy outcome for Queensland tourism, the State Government has amended proposed e-mobility laws to allow 12–17-year-olds to use e-mobility devices under parental supervision. This is an important outcome for many tourism operators across the state.

QTIC worked closely with members and government throughout the consultation process, advocating for greater recognition of tourism businesses and the unique role they play in delivering safe visitor experiences.

Thank you to the operators who shared their insights, experiences and concerns. Your contributions helped ensure our collective voice was heard and brought an industry perspective to the discussion.

Congratulations to the 325 QTIC members recognised through the Best of Queensland Experiences program 👏

This year, 74 members achieved Gold recognition, alongside 79 Silver and 171 Teal recipients, showcasing the outstanding experiences Queensland operators continue to deliver for visitors across our state.

It’s particularly encouraging to see strong industry engagement with sustainability certification and continuous improvement initiatives, helping position our Sunshine State as a leader in sustainable and high quality visitor experiences.
