Supporting Local Author Katherine Owens and Celebrating Everyday People in Our Community

A strong community starts with knowing the people in it.

At NCW Intelligence Community level, we often talk about awareness, connection, and understanding the people around us. That is why Extraordinary Stories is such a meaningful release to share. It’s what we all want. To be heard and understood; to tell our story.

This book reminds us that every person in our community has a story worth hearing. Extraordinary Stories features 17 real-life adventures that are described as shocking, heartwarming, inspiring, and deeply human. It shows that you do not need to be rich or famous to live a meaningful and successful life.

From an NCW Community perspective, this is exactly where safer, stronger communities begin. When everyday people are seen, heard, and valued, we build trust. We strengthen relationships. We become more aware of the needs, strengths, and experiences that exist all around us.

If you would like to support a local author and explore a book that speaks to the value of everyday lives, you can get yourself an Extraordinary Stories Paperback or e-book link here: https://www.katherineowens.com/shop/p/extraordinary-stories-ebook

For the educators and community leaders, there are also Teacher eNotes developed by Sue Warren, whose experience spans more than 30 years across school and library settings. These notes were created to support the use of Extraordinary Stories in classroom, library, clinic, and workplace settings. Extraordinary Stories Teacher eNotes Link here: https://www.katherineowens.com/shop/p/extraordinary-stories-teacher-notes

Let us continue backing local voices, supporting meaningful conversations, and recognising that every person in our neighbourhood has value, insight, and a story worth telling.

A strong community starts with knowing the people in it.

I hope our local friends can get behind this wonderful book.

Regards

Nine years ago today, on 29 May 2017, Queensland lost one of its finest.

Senior Constable Brett Forte was killed in the line of duty while serving the people of Queensland. A proud member of the Darling Downs Tactical Crime Squad, Brett represented everything good about policing. Courage under pressure. Loyalty to his mates. Commitment to community. Quiet professionalism when it mattered most.

But behind the badge was something even more important, a husband, a father, a mate, and a mentor to many. A man whose family meant everything to him, and whose presence left a mark on every officer and every community member fortunate enough to know him.

The job asks police to run toward danger while everyone else runs away. Brett did exactly that. He stood between harm and the innocent without hesitation. That sacrifice can never be repaid. Never.

Today, the Neighbourhood Crime Watchers stand with the Queensland Police Service and with Brett’s family and mates.

“We remember not just the way he died, but the way he lived. With integrity and service to others. Time does not erase loss. It simply teaches communities how to carry it differently. And Queensland will carry Brett Forte’s sacrifice for all time”

To his family and fellow officers: your husband, son, father, partner and mate is not forgotten. He remains part of the heartbeat of a grateful community.

Rest easy, Senior Constable Brett Forte.

Your watch ended, but your legacy shall not.
