Snow in Northern Tasmania comes with locals. The furry kind.
Up around Ben Lomond and the Central Highlands, wallabies appear through the fog. Wombats wander about in their winter coats. And if you’re lucky, you might spot the tracks of a quoll stitched through fresh snow — tiny reminders that something wild passed through before you did.
Turns out snow season isn’t just for humans in puffer jackets.
A quick reality check before heading up: alpine weather changes fast down here. Check the BOM and Parks & Wildlife alerts before you go, carry the right gear and chains where needed, and drive to the conditions with absolute caution. Ice, snow and winding roads have a habit of humbling overconfidence.
And while you’re out there, give wildlife space, keep noise low, and let the locals get on with their day.
