Meet Jessie Brierley. 🧩

Guest-house owner, puzzle enthusiast and, apparently, determined to keep her guests out of Bridgetown’s pubs.

Jessie’s evenings were often spent around a jigsaw puzzle, with coffee, conversation and — according to the stories passed down — very specific instructions about how the puzzle should be completed.

Her guests later sent her puzzles from around the world, many of which are now part of the Original Collection in the Brierley Gallery.

We’ve recreated that feeling at Puzzletown — right down to the puzzles on the tables and cups of tea — so you can step into Jessie’s world for a little while.

And hopefully, unlike Jessie’s guests, you won’t make a run for the pub. 😉

A little history, a lot of puzzles, and plenty of curious minds. 🧩

In 1945, Jessie Brierley began filling a former hotel with jigsaw puzzles. For 33 years, travellers, family and friends added to her collection — creating the beginnings of what Puzzletown is today.

Now, generations of visitors can explore the gallery, tackle puzzles and games, and discover something new around every corner.

A place where curiosity leads the way — with plenty for kids and grown-ups to enjoy.
