Bribie and District Woodcrafters Association Inc

Bribie and District Woodcrafters Association Inc Bribie Woodies is a friendly Community Organisation fostering the pursuit of excellence in Wood Art. The Bribie and District Woodcrafters Association Inc.

History of Bribie and District Woodcrafters Association Inc. came into existence on the 4th October 1996, with a mere handful of members who shared a common interest in woodworking. These early meetings were initially held in the storeroom of the Bribie Island Community Arts Centre. As membership grew the Caboolture Shire Council and Committee of the Community Arts Centre, graciously allocated the

use of a site at the rear of the Arts Centre Complex. After much fund raising and hard work, the time finally arrived when Trevor Peters, the inaugural President of the Bribie and District Woodcrafters Inc. officially opened the group’s new home on Tuesday, 8th April, 1997. A second workshop was added in September 2003 and a complete dust extraction system due to much fund raising and grants from Caboolture Council and Gambling community Benefit Fund. The timber compound was completed in May 2010 thanks to funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. The last two of our workshops were completed in 2015/16 with assistance from a Gambling and Community Fund grant. The Club provides classes and workshops in most aspects of working with wood including turning, carving, pyrography and marquetry. An annual competition/exhibition is held each October in the Matthew Flinders Gallery at the Community Art Centre. Members pride themselves in the standard of work in the Exhibition, which has become very well known amongst woodcrafters. All members are welcome to provide high quality items they have made for display or sale or as an entry to the competition. The competition is open to all members and includes sections for all the different facets of woodworking. The Club’s goals are to foster and promote an active interest in all matters relating to the history, development and artistic expertise of working with wood. To raise funds for club activities and for the improvement of the association. Where agreed, raise funds for charitable organisations, research and community projects which will further the standing of the association in the community.

We have just celebrated the sign off from the MBCC with all the work that has been completed these past years for our club. This has been a long and arduous task, and we are all very grateful for the magnificent effort it took to reach this milestone.
The City of Moreton Bay have been incredibly supportive of our community, and we are very thankful for their contribution to our club and their assistance in achieving our goals.
As part of this celebration, we have taken the opportunity to recognize two members who have provided outstanding service to the club:
John Dann
John has spent the last 3 years working every day on completing all the requirements of the MBRC as well as fulfilling the role of President.
John joined the club in 2012 and was initially involved with the Pyrography group. He encouraged two of his granddaughters to join and also learn this skill and enter items into the Annual Competition and Exhibition. John is also an accomplished box maker, but where he got the time to do all these things we do not know! He also has been very proactive in making 10 of the Memory Boxes presented to the Breast Cancer Group last year.
John was President for 3 years and is currently Vice President of our club and we were very happy to announce the naming of the John Dann Awning as recognition of all his hard work.

Arthur Horsfall
Arthur is one of the original members of the club, joining in 1994 and is the longest active member at this time. Arthur’s dedication and time spent working for the club has been and is appreciated.
Arthur formed the Project Team in the early days to ensure that all work was managed and logged. This work has often been for charities such as the Community Center, Churches, Schools and Clubs but also for individuals from our community. Many times Arthur has taken “work” home and continued to work on items for the club in his own time. He encourages his fellow members who assist with this work and shares his knowledge and skills on how to repair/rebuild these items.
Over the years he has personally made items for the raffle prize for the Exhibition and the club’s Christmas Raffle,
The area that the projects team work now proudly has a new name – Arthur’s Shed.
