A Brave Life is a Queensland based charity with a vision to see all vulnerable babies and their families have adequate resources and support available to them during the perinatal period. We support newborns and their families, impacted by;

89.7% of women who received a Baby Bundle reported an increase of trust in support services, giving them the confidence to engage with services throughout their pregnancy and care for their newborn.

✨The impact our Baby Bundle Program is having✨

We recently shared the results of the evaluation of our Baby Bundle program but on top of that we have also received over 50 support/feedback letters from midwives, social workers & community health workers from right accros Queensland.

Here is what just one midwife had to say about the program.

“As a midwife, I have the privilege of walking alongside women and families during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. Preparing for a newborn should be a joyful, but for we often see that it is layered with financial stress, housing insecurity, family breakdown, trauma, domestic violence, isolation, or limited support. These challenges are becoming increasingly visible in the current cost-of-living crisis, with many families experiencing significant financial hardship and poverty.

As I commute to work, I have watched a local campground increasingly fill with tents occupied by families who no longer have stable housing, and it continues to grow week by week. This is the reality for some of the women in our community. Unfortunately, they already feel unsupported by so many agencies and are often reluctant to accept yet another referral that is unlikely to bring them any respite. Which is why the Baby Bundle Program is so powerful, it is an on-the-spot practical support. No lengthy referrals and dashed hopes.

The fact that the bags are filled with brand new items is loved by all the midwives. They are not simply a collection of unwanted or leftover items. Women who are already experiencing vulnerability should not be made to feel as though they are receiving what is left over, or that they themselves are an afterthought. Providing new, carefully chosen items help preserve dignity, self-worth and respect at a time when many women may already be feeling overwhelmed, unseen or unsupported.

The women are always grateful; they enjoy that it is a modern item and one they can actually make long term use of, even when their baby is no longer a newborn!
We have also watched many times that the gift of the bag allows for an opening to a bigger conversation around what other items they may need or other needs they have.”
