Roslyn Maddrell

Sad news came on the 27th April with the passing of Roslyn (Ros) Maddrell. Ros probably knew more about Braidwood’s history than anyone else, having written many books on a variety of topics. Some on Braidwood’s general history and others about the servicemen and women from Braidwood going back to the Boer War.

Ros was a great supporter of the Braidwood RSL, always giving of her time on Anzac Days when she gave an address, which she did on a number of occasions, or by giving a talk when asked at times such as our Remembrance Day dinners. Ros was a very self-effacing woman who enjoyed helping others and imparting her knowledge when asked to do so.

One of the primary roles of the RSL is to foster the welfare of ex-servicemen and women. I think Ros did this, which is vital in a rural area such as ours, by keeping before us, and alive, the history of those from this community who served in the past.

Ros was a very happy woman who had an infectious sense of humour and a very engaging personality, she was a friend to all. She will be sadly missed.

RIP Ros.
