Friends Of Boya Trail Welcome to Friends of Boya Trail! John Herington Memorial Picnic Ground. We meet up on Saturday mornings for an hour’s work on our project.

We are a group of friendly volunteers who are dedicated to caring for the beautiful bushland near the heritage trail in Boya, in and around the John Herrington Memorial Picnic Ground, which is located on Coulston Road, Boya, in the Shire of Mundaring. During these gatherings, we plant native trees and shrubs, remove weeds and rubbish. We also perform other tasks to improve the habitat for wildlife

and enhance the aesthetics of this natural playground. We're always thrilled to have new members join us! If you're interested in participating in our working bees, please send a private message to our group. We'll be more than happy to have you join our team and contribute to the preservation of this lovely area. In addition to our restoration work, we love to see the natural beauty of this region showcased by our community members. So please feel free to post photos of any flora and fauna that you've come across while exploring the area. Lastly, we kindly request that you refrain from using our group to sell or advertise any products or services, as well as from posting any offensive content. Any such posts will be removed. That’s a wrap on our planting season at Boya Trail!

Friends of Boya Trail held our final planting day for the season on Saturday, with a little help from our friends at HRCG — Philip Lane and Connie.

We planted the remaining sedges into the same drainage ditch we’ve been working on over the past few weeks, as well as adding a few more plants down near the memorial seat.

It’s been a fantastic couple of months of planting, with so many plants now in the ground. Now comes the exciting part — watching them establish, grow and hopefully seeing the rewards of all our hard work over the next 12 months.

A huge THANK YOU to every one of our enthusiastic volunteers who came down and helped get those plants into the ground — rain, hail or shine.

We really do appreciate your commitment, enthusiasm and hard work. It’s volunteers like you who make a real difference to Boya Trail.

Now we wait, watch and let nature do its thing. 🌱

🌱 Another Planting Day at Boya Trail! 🌿

Today, I headed down to Boya Trail with HRCG Chairperson Philip Lane and we planted approximately 100 more sedges into the same drainage ditch we worked on a couple of weeks ago.

And the timing couldn’t have been better! 🌧️💧 We had quite a bit of rain today, giving our newly planted sedges a great start and plenty of moisture to settle them in.

It’s great to see this little section of the trail gradually being restored, one plant at a time. 🌿💚

🌱 A Wet & Wonderful Day at Boya Trail! 🌧️🌿

On Saturday, Philip Lane, Chairperson of the Helena River Catchment Group (HRCG), joined us at Boya Trail to help get approximately 100 plants into the ground.

It was a very wet and cold day — but, as far as planting goes, it was pretty much ideal! 🌧️🌱

We spent quite a bit of time planting sedges into a drainage ditch, which turned out to be the perfect spot for them. With plenty of water already flowing through the area, we're looking forward to watching these plants establish and grow over the next 12 months.

A big thank you to Philip for getting out there with us and helping improve this little section of Boya Trail. Every plant makes a difference

🌧️ The First Rains Arrive at Boya Trail 💙🌿

There's something special about seeing the first winter rains breathe life back into our local bushland.

A huge thank you to Tim Blake for capturing this fantastic and unique series of videos showing the first flows of water making their way down the stream near Boya Trail.

A Little Slice of Peace at Boya Trail

Today we captured two short videos of the creek flowing through the reserve. One lets you enjoy the gentle bubbling of the water as it makes its way downstream, while the other captures the calm and tranquillity of the stream in near silence.

Whether you turn the sound up to enjoy nature's soundtrack or simply take in the peaceful scenery, we hope these videos bring a little moment of calm to your day.

🌱 Another Great Morning at the Boya Trail! 🌱

Despite the chilly start, today's glorious winter morning provided the perfect opportunity to get more plants into the ground.

A huge thank you to Philip Lane, Chairperson of the Helena River Catchment Group (HRCG), who generously gave his time to help us plant more than 120 Juncus pallidus along the banks of the stream at the Boya Trail.

These native rushes will play an important role in stabilising the stream banks, improving habitat, and enhancing the health of the waterway for years to come.

Philip, we sincerely appreciate your ongoing support, hard work, and willingness to lend a hand whenever it's needed. We couldn't do it without dedicated people like you.

🌱 Another Great Planting Day at Boya Trail! 🌱

On Saturday, 27 June 2026, a dedicated group of volunteers came together and planted more than 300 native plants along the Boya Trail.

The day started off very wet and stormy, but we were lucky enough to finish with some sunshine and even a few dry patches!

It was fantastic to welcome some new local faces who joined us with great enthusiasm. They even brought along their two young children, and it was wonderful to see the oldest jump right in and help with the planting. Seeing the next generation getting involved in caring for our environment is always something special.

Once again, Philip Lane, Chairperson of Helena River Catchment Group, came along to lend a hand with tools and manpower. It's always greatly appreciated to have the support of HRCG and their volunteers.

A huge thank you also goes to Yvonne for once again generously providing morning tea. Your kindness and support are always so appreciated by everyone.

Thank you to everyone who braved the weather and helped make another successful planting day possible. Together, we're making a real difference for the Boya Trail and our local environment. 💚🌿

Great News! Planting Day is Locked In!

The Friends of Boya Trail are excited to announce that our next planting day will be held on Saturday 27 June, from 9:00am – 12:00pm.

We'll be planting approximately 200 native plants, generously donated by the Shire of Mundaring, along with tackling some weeds and, if time permits, spreading mulch around the site.

☕ Morning tea will be provided, so if you'd like to come along, please let us know beforehand so we can cater for everyone.

Whether you're a regular volunteer or have never joined us before, we'd love to see you there. Every helping hand makes a difference in improving and protecting this special local bushland area.

The recent rain has given the ground a great start, and we're looking forward to getting these plants into the soil and watching them thrive.

We look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces at Boya Trail for another productive and enjoyable morning in the bush!

A beautiful start to the day on the Boya Trail

This photo was taken early Saturday morning, just as the sun was rising over the reserve. It was certainly a chilly start, with a touch of frost on the grass, but mornings like this remind us why we love this special place.

The crisp air, birds beginning their morning chorus, and the first rays of sunlight filtering through the trees made for a peaceful and picturesque start to the weekend.

Winter is one of the most rewarding times to get out and explore the trail. The bush is coming alive, the creeks will soon be flowing, and before long we'll be enjoying another season of planting and restoration work.
