Friends Of Boya Trail

Friends Of Boya Trail Welcome to Friends of Boya Trail! John Herington Memorial Picnic Ground. We meet up on Saturday mornings for an hour’s work on our project.

We are a group of friendly volunteers who are dedicated to caring for the beautiful bushland near the heritage trail in Boya, in and around the John Herrington Memorial Picnic Ground, which is located on Coulston Road, Boya, in the Shire of Mundaring. During these gatherings, we plant native trees and shrubs, remove weeds and rubbish. We also perform other tasks to improve the habitat for wildlife

and enhance the aesthetics of this natural playground. We're always thrilled to have new members join us! If you're interested in participating in our working bees, please send a private message to our group. We'll be more than happy to have you join our team and contribute to the preservation of this lovely area. In addition to our restoration work, we love to see the natural beauty of this region showcased by our community members. So please feel free to post photos of any flora and fauna that you've come across while exploring the area. Lastly, we kindly request that you refrain from using our group to sell or advertise any products or services, as well as from posting any offensive content. Any such posts will be removed. Thank you for your interest in Friends of Boya Trail, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

🌿 A change in the seasons at Boya Trail 🌿

Stopped in at the picnic area at John Herington Reserve today — and you can already see the difference.

As the days get cooler, the landscape is starting to come back to life. Fresh green is pushing through, and it’s a great reminder of just how quickly things can turn around with a bit of rain and the change in season 🌱

A beautiful spot for a walk, a picnic, or just a quiet moment in nature.

Wildlife Surprise on Boya Trail!

Over the last few months, Tim Blake set up trail cameras around the John Herington / Boya Trail area — and wow, the results surprised us!

The biggest shock? A deer!
Yep… a deer. How it got there is anyone’s guess
So if you thought you were dreaming when you spotted one over the past few months — turns out, you were absolutely right!

The cameras also captured a great mix of familiar locals and night-time wanderers:

• Brushtail possum
• Dog
• Echidna (rear end only 😄)
• Fox
• Quenda
• Pacific Black Duck
• Western Grey Kangaroo

A big credit to Tim Blake for capturing these images for us — it’s a great reminder of just how much wildlife shares this space with us, often when we’re not around to see it.

Have you spotted anything unusual along the trail lately?

🌿 A shout-out to our unsung local legends 🌿

Today on Boya Trail I was reminded how lucky we are to have such a caring community. Someone had already spent their time pulling out a large amount of weeds — all I had to do was gather them into a pile.

I’d also like to acknowledge the kind person who fills the handmade water bowls each day, making sure birds and other wildlife have something to drink.

These small, quiet acts of care don’t always get noticed, but they make a huge difference. People like this keep the spirit of our community alive. Thank you 💚

👉 If you’d like to help out — whether it’s weeding, caring for wildlife, or lending a hand when you can — we’d love to hear from you. Every little bit helps 🤝💪

🌿 Boya Trail Busy Bee! 🌞

We had a beautiful sunny day on Saturday at Boya Trail, perfect for some weeding!
An enthusiastic group of volunteers came together to tackle the area around the memorial seat — once a very weedy and overgrown patch, it’s now looking fantastic.

What was once dense with weeds is now a clean, tranquil space for everyone to enjoy.
A big thank you to all who came along and lent a hand! 💚

There’s something special about Boya Trail this time of year — the plants are thriving and the stream is flowing softly through the valley. A perfect reminder of how beautiful nature can be. Come see it for yourself sometime!

🌱 Planting at Picnic Grounds - Helena Valley 🌱

Yesterday I once again had the absolute pleasure of helping Philip Lane, Chairperson of the Helena River Catchment Group, with planting seedlings at the Picnic Grounds project site in Helena Valley.

It was such a beautiful day to be out planting, and I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it. A special mention to Agatha, our new volunteer — full of enthusiasm and energy, which made the day even more enjoyable. Thank you for coming along! 🌿✨

🌿 Spring Morning at Boya Trail 🌿

Yesterday was a beautiful spring day at Boya Trail. The stream was flowing gently, and the air was filled with birdsong all around. Honestly, there’s nothing better than being out here in the morning and soaking in all of its beauty.

Why not take a stroll and experience it for yourself?

A Magical Morning at Boya Trail

This morning I braved the cold and rain at Boya Trail — and it was absolutely worth it. The stream was flowing beautifully, and the whole area had a magical feel to it. 🌿💧

Why not come down sometime and see for yourself just how special this place is?

🌱 Planting at Helena River Picnic Grounds 🌞

On Saturday 30th August 2025, the Friends of Boya Trail/Riverview Church joined Philip Lane at his project site, the Helena River Picnic Grounds, for a wonderful morning of planting reeds and rushes.

We were joined by several members of the Rotary Club of Perth, and together we planted many hundreds of native plants. The sun was shining, the river was sparkling, and the sense of teamwork made it an absolute pleasure and privilege to be part of.

A big thank you to Phil and all the volunteers who helped bring more life to this beautiful place! 💚

If you haven’t been yet, we encourage you to go and visit the Helena River Picnic Grounds — it’s a hidden gem, and now looking more beautiful than ever. 🌿✨

A Chilly Morning at Boya Trail

This morning I visited Boya Trail on a very chilly start to the day. After all the winter rain this past week, everything is looking fresh and full of life. The sun broke through the trees and the stream was flowing beautifully – such a perfect reminder of why Boya Trail is so special!

Well worth a visit after the rain. 🌿💧

🌱 Planting Complete for 2025! 🌱

We’ve wrapped up our planting for the year (well… unless we’re lucky enough to be gifted more plants 😉).

Thanks to the amazing dedication and hard work of our volunteers, we planted an incredible 2,365+ seedlings this season! 💪💚

Without your support and commitment, we simply couldn’t have achieved this. A huge thank you to every single person who came along, rain or shine, to help us make a difference.

Here’s to seeing them grow! 🌳✨
