National Volunteer Week 18-24 May 2026

A big shout-out to all the amazing people who volunteer at Greenlink Nursery. 🌱

Being 100% run by volunteers, we are so lucky to have such a passionate and committed community of like-minded individuals who give up their time every week to grow and nurture our wonderful indigenous plants for the local and wider community.

We have so much to be grateful for.

Our Vice President, Emi Luppino, was honored as one of the recipients of the 2026 Menzies Electorate Outstanding Community Volunteer Award and Greenlink was mentioned in Federal Parliament for the outstanding work they do for the environment and in the community.

So thankyou - we really couldn't do it without our wonderful volunteers!!

It's been a super busy time at the nursery these past few weeks, culminating in the installation of our new polyhouse, bigger and better than before!!

Our last one came to a sorry end after an altercation with a huge tree branch from our (still beloved) Eucalyptus rubida. All is forgiven, and the outcome is that we now have more space to grow more plants!! Yippee! πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸŒ±πŸ€Έβ€β™€οΈ

Our volunteers did an amazing job this week, putting down a fresh layer of gravel before realigning the plant benches, sorting out racks, pots and tubes etc, and having a general clean-up around the nursery.

Well, we are back up and running. The tree branch has been cleared and our site is safe. Despite the damage to our polyhouse which is a write off which will need to be replaced along with our watering system, not a single plant was harmed. Thank you for your understanding and your concerns and ongoing support. Trevor Eddy

At Greenlink Nursery we have a great range of wetland and water-loving plants that you can use to make your own bog pots, similar to these ones we made for the nursery. 🌿πŸͺ΄

Plant species such as Isotoma fluviatilis, Mazus pumilo, Lobelia anceps, Crassula helmsii, Goodenia humilis, Eleocharis acuta, Veronica gracilis, Ranunculus inundatus etc are ideal.

If you would like to make your own, come to our sale day this Saturday 8 November and pick up a few plants and a "how-to" brochure, and get started!!

As part of the Whitehorse Seniors Festival, we were pleased to welcome 13 community members along with Lisa Williams, Positive Ageing Co-Ordinator to participate for a plant propagation workshop and demonstration at the nursery on October 9th. Hosted by Trevor and starring Graham Hodgson, our cuttings king explaining and demonstrating the art of propagating Corea Reflexa and President Robert Jones, doing likewise with planting from seed. The participants were fully engaged with the process and stayed on after the session to ask questions about the different potting media, grab some plants, look around the nursery, and seek help on various plant questions.. Thanks to Graham and Robert for their great work and not to mention Trevor Eddy our Treasurer who coordinated and hosted the event and made his very famous banana cake for morning tea. City Council

The wild weather over the last week in Melbourne has brought down the canopy of our Eucalyptus globoidea which was planted in September 2018, to commemorate Greenlink Nursery's 30th anniversary in Bushy Creek.

We collected lots of the fallen seed capsules, and have put the larger branches to good use in the parkland adjacent to the nursery, so we utilised as much of the fallen plant material as possible.

Hopefully we might see some new growth on what is remaining, over the next few months 🌿🀞

On Monday 25th August a group of around 50 members of the local Chinese community visited the nursery for a tour and presentation on the history of Greenlink, in conjunction with Whitehorse City Council and Monash City Council Gardens for Wildlife program. 🌱🌱🌱

Some of our Chinese-speaking volunteers came along to help with translation and to assist with any questions from our visitors.

Following the tour and morning tea, many of our guests then had a wander through the nursery and purchased some indigenous plants for their own gardens.

We hope everyone enjoyed the nursery tour - we were certainly thrilled to see such a great turnout, with lots of interest in our plants, and we really appreciate the support from both councils to arrange the visit today, and provide chinese translations of indigenous plant booklets and brochures for our visitors!
