What a wonderful community moment at the opening of Coles Local Glen Iris!

Coles donated $1,000 to Box Hill Community Bakehouse and we were thrilled to be there for it.

As Lynne Dyer from Box Hill Community Bakery put it:
"We appreciate the support that Coles Local is giving to us in trying to meet the needs of those who struggle to make ends meet — and especially those who don't even have any ends to meet."

A heads up to all our clients. As tomorrow is Anzac Day, we will NOT open at our usual time of 7:30am. Instead, we WILL BE OPEN from 1pm to 2pm. There are also notices on the Barn door about this in English and Mandarin also.

We have been lucky enough to partner with another supermarket. We need volunteers willing to collect their donations on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings around 10:30am and drop it to The Barn in Box Hill. If you have some free time on one of these mornings and a car, we would love to hear from you. Please PM if you can help us in this way. The numbers of people needing food relief in the local area is climbing, we would value any time you can give in helping to collect food to distribute.

Could your community start your own Bakehouse?

The Box Hill Community Bakehouse has grown so much over the past few years, but too much good food still goes to waste, while more and more people in our neighbourhoods are doing it tough.

Our new Bakehouse Network Project is helping local groups, organisations and residents explore how they could start their own small community bakehouse - turning rescued food into practical community support.

Even small projects make a big difference, and we can help with training, information and equipment!

If you’re curious about what’s involved, we'd love to hear from you. We’re also running two Information Sessions:

📍 Online: Friday 6 March, 10am (Microsoft Teams)
📍 In person: Saturday 7 March, 10am The Village Well , 5 Ellingworth Pde, Box Hill

Whether you’re a community group, local organisation, or just a resident with a big heart, we’d love to talk.

Special thanks today to our wonderful volunteer team - Patrick, Leah, Chelsea, Keith, Sarita, Stuart and Francois. Most of these people not only collected the donations in the extreme heat, but also unloaded and helped to sort more than 1000kgs of fresh produce 🥵🤩 When you come to collect the produce in The Barn on Thursdays and Saturdays,
please think of the wonderful team of volunteers who make it possible for the Bakehouse to operate. They are gold 💛
