Digital access makes it easier for people to connect and access essential services and information. Part of digital safety is being aware of scams and how to protect yourself online as scams can happen to anyone.

Last year, more than 481,000 scams were reported in Australia. Scammers rely on silence. These stories help us recognise the warning signs, start important conversations and stay one step ahead of scammers. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/stop-check-protect

Census night is Tuesday 11 August. In the Census, every answer matters. You can help the Australian Bureau of Statistics by completing the Census to help our community understand what Australia needs now and into the future.

Everyone in your household on Census night needs to be included on the Census form, including visitors and babies.

If you’re travelling or working away within Australia, you’ll need to complete a Census form wherever you’re staying on Census night. If someone is completing the Census form at your usual address, you’ll need to be marked as ‘away’ but usually living at the home.

Information from the Census helps governments, businesses and not for profit organisations across the country make decisions. It informs planning for schools, health care, transport and infrastructure. It is also used by community groups to help plan local services for individuals, families and communities.

For information to help complete your Census, including accessing in-person support, visit www.census.abs.gov.au.

For help in your language call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) on 131 450.

This week is Homelessness Week, led by Homelessness Australia. It’s an important moment to reflect on the housing crisis and its impact on the growing number of Australians experiencing homelessness.

In 2024–25, around 289,000 Australians sought support from homelessness services. Behind every number is a person, family or household looking for stability and a place to call home.

Last financial year, CHL welcomed 1,820 households into homes, including 970 households that were experiencing some form of homelessness.

As Interim CEO Alicia Follent says: “We already know what works. It’s housing, delivered at scale, with the right support alongside it.”

Every life deserves a solid foundation. Let's move beyond awareness and focus on action.

The Australian Government is launching AusAlert, a new national warning system. It will send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices such as phones, tablets and smart watches during disasters such as bushfires, severe weather and public health emergencies.

AusAlert messages share important information, but they could make hidden safety devices easier to find.

Before AusAlert is ready to use in October 2026, the system needs to be tested across Australia.

This is called the AusAlert national test.

On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices – such as phones, tablets and smart watches – may receive a test alert at around:
•2:00 pm AEST – Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victoria, Tasmania
•1:30 pm ACST – Northern Territory, South Australia, Broken Hill (NSW)
•12:00 pm AWST – Western Australia.

If your devices are turned on, the AusAlert national test may:
•make them vibrate
•play a loud siren-like sound for 10 seconds
•turn the screen on automatically.

This may happen even if the volume is turned down or your devices are on silent or do not disturb.

What you should do
If you think it might not be safe for you or someone you care about to receive the AusAlert national test, at least one hour before the test time:
•turn your safety devices off OR
•switch them to aeroplane mode (if you have it) AND
•leave them off for 24 hours.

Remember – you can still use wi-fi if your device is in aeroplane mode. If it doesn’t have aeroplane mode, turn it off instead.

Our CHL teams across Australia were proud to participate in a variety of local community events for this year's NAIDOC Week, celebrating '50 Years of Deadly'. Thank you to our team members, customers and the communities we live and work in for creating the opportunity to participate, learn and recognise the history, culture and achievements of First Nations Peoples.

CHL’s new First Nations embodied design was created by Aneika Kapeen, a proud Yaegl and Bundjalung woman, alongside 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated IM Social Impact Agency.

The design was co-created with CHL’s customers, team members and community, with the process grounded in collaboration and cultural understanding to represent shared stories and values.
