Thinking about applying for a SHEAF grant? We’re here to help!

We’ve developed a handy Applicant Guide to help young people work through the grant application process. The guide steps applicants through what they need to know, including eligibility, the process and tips to help their application stand out.

If you’re aged 16–25 and considering university study or an apprenticeship, SHEAF may be able to help with some of the practical costs of your journey.

The SHCF Highlands Hero award aims to recognise and reward volunteers within our community who work tirelessly for their chosen cause. Winners receive a $5,000 grant for their organisation.

Our 2026 Highlands Hero and Young Hero will be drawn from nominations received on or before August 14th 2026. The nomination process is easy and it's a wonderful way to recognise those in our community whose hard work and dedication might otherwise go under the radar. Plus - Winners receive a $5,000 SHCF grant to donate to their organisation or cause.

Every young person deserves the opportunity to reach their potential.

Today we launch SHEAF - the Southern Highlands Education & Apprenticeship Fund. SHEAF is about backing our young people and helping remove the barriers that can stand between ambition and opportunity. Eligible young people aged 16–25 can now apply for financial support for university study, TAFE and apprenticeships.

2026 SHEAF Pathways:
- $12,000 per year McLean University Scholarship for three years
- $500–$5,000 one off Apprenticeship Grants (supporting new and existing apprentices)

Applications open 30 July 2026 and close 30 September 2026.

The Southern Highlands Education & Apprenticeship Fund (SHEAF) has been created to provide financial support to help remove some of the barriers young people face when taking their next step.

On Friday August 28th local business and community representatives from across the Southern Highlands will come together in solidarity to spend a night in the cold to support those in our community who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
