Remount programs are hosted on a working working cattle property complimented by excellent horse training facilities, yards, and beautiful trails to ride. All the Remount clients (Drovers), are taken through a two day introduction to horsemanship with the support of skilled horse trainers. Whether they have ridden previously or not, people can expect to master the basic levels of horsemanship, to
the stage where they will be mustering and working cattle by the end of their time here. The program is hosted and instructed by our group of volunteer “Stockmen”. These mounted instructors have decades of horsemanship experience, and all are willing to work through the necessary stages so that each rider can master these skills at their own pace. Instruction is delivered in a group environment, with the ability to provide one-on-one instruction for each Drover when necessary. The focus of the program is as much about spending quality time in an outdoor environment, as it is about learning new skills. Our aim at Remount is to build confidence in each rider, and provide a supportive and friendly space for people to operate in. Day one commences by learning the "language of the horse" and is delivered by spending time on ground work before we mount up. Being able to identify signs and the language of the horse, and then experience “join-up" with a horse, provides the foundation for all other ridden activities. The remainder of the time will be aimed at taking all riders to a level where they can comfortably and confidently work in control with their horse and effectively muster cattle. All riders, including Drovers and Stockmen safety, is a major priority and focus throughout the program. Riders are housed in a cottage on site and all catering is provided at no cost. A volunteer team of “Ringers” will be providing three meals a day and all necessary drinks and snacks breaks. Remount is a not-for-profit organisation run by a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about horses and the power they have to heal. In recent years, much more is being understood about how horses can connect with people, and through programs such as Remount, how it can become a catalyst for changing people’s lives. These volunteers want to give back to our men and women who have served through the armed forces, in the hope that they will benefit by attending programs such as these.
