Perfect time to start your seedlings for
your spring crop. Flowers or veg.

Start in trays and keep indoors to keep seedlings away from the winter frost. By late October they will be healthy and ready to plant out.

Plant seedlings into trays now: most leafy green vegetables , tomatoes, chilli’s, eggplant, capsicum, cucumbers and zucchini 🌱

Outside, turn the soil and add fertiliser to prepare the ground for planting. Top with organic mulch and remove any dead or diseased plants to stop or prevent disease.

Prune dead wood and roses now.

Your rose will flower for the flower show in September but needs to be done now.

❄️💧 Winter Watering Done Right! 🌿

Winter may bring cooler weather, but your garden still needs the right amount of water to stay healthy and thrive. Overwatering can be just as harmful as underwatering, so a few simple changes to your routine can make all the difference.
🌱 Remember to:
💧 Water deeply, but less often.
☀️ Water in the morning.
🌿 Check your soil before watering.
🍂 Apply mulch to retain moisture.
🌳 Give newly planted plants extra care.
🌾 Water lawns less frequently. 🌧️ Adjust your watering schedule after rainfall. 🪴 Keepan eye on container plants, as they dry out faster.

📍For Durban and Coastal KZN gardens, our mild winters often mean less watering is needed than you think. Always check the soil first before reaching for the hose.
