Yesterday was the last session of the skills shed for this term.
Our junior tradies each received a certificate of completion and a junior tradies tool belt.
Great job it really is great to see the skills that they are learning and the smiles on their faces.

Another term in the Youth Skills Shed comes to a close!
This week our ‘Junior Tradies’ enjoyed learning how to make Hamburgers under the guidance of Club member, Marina from the local Burgatory store. Each participant made their own and enjoyed eating them.
As this was the last session for this group of Junior Tradies, each was presented with a “Certificate of Participation” and a Tool Kit to take home and continue to apply their newly acquired skills.

Tonight we had the pleasure of having a presentation from Melinda Shelley on 123 Read 2 me a charity she and her husband created when they became aware of the lack of children’s books in their local community.
123Read 2 me currently provides children in low socioeconomic communities with FREE quality children’s books from recycled books to new ones purchased with cash donations. They have donated over 1,400,000 books with a total value of books donated to date exceeding $10,000,000.00 (replacement value). What a remarkable achievement by a dedicated group of volunteers providing what should be a basic need.

This week our ‘Junior Tradies’ had lots of fun learning about Bricklaying. Under the tutelage of our regular “Brickie” Scott, and with support of Simon (an apprentice about to qualify), they worked in two teams to build a “mini stadium” on the floor of the Youth Skills Shed. This involved setting out where the bricks were to be laid (including the curved ends of the stadium), as well as the various aspects of actually building the structure (laying a bed of mortar, buttering and laying the bricks, levelling and aligning, and finishing off).
They finished the activity by cleaning up the site before enjoying a game of hand soccer therein!
Each junior tradie was then presented with a brick engraved with their name to take home.

Today ten of our members spent time counting and sorting out part of a donation of socks and tee shirts one of the friends of our club donated a week ago. Another part of this donation has already been donated to a charity that we support.
Thank you to Monique and Mark from Dorset Stationers for allowing us to use their warehouse.
