A community foundation, such as the Bordertown Health and Community Foundation, is a vehicle for community money (donations) to be invested and managed for the benefit of the community. It allows for donated community money to be invested wisely, and the income derived from these investments to be used for projects in the community. The larger the fund, the greater the income available for use in the community. It continues to grow and provide an income for community use into the future.
It requires a Board of Trustees, at least 50% of whom are recognised as Responsible Persons by the ATO.
It has a beneficiary - in our case, the Bordertown Memorial Hospital.
What happens to your money when you make a donation to the Bordertown Health & Community Fund?
โ
Donated funds are invested using the advice and expertise of our investment team (Matthew Rowett & Simon Ballinger under the guidance of Bell Potter's Nigel Stewart).
โ
Each month the investment team review our portfolio to ensure it is performing appropriately - a mix of conservative and growth investments to ensure capital is not eroded and there is enough liquidity for any funds to be sent across to the hospital as needed.
โ
At the end of each financial year, 4% of the total value of the Fund is allocated to the Bordertown and District Health Advisory Council Inc (HAC) for spending on appropriate equipment or upgrades via a request to our Board.
โ
Bi-monthly meetings of the Board are held to review any requests for funds from the HAC. These requests are carefully reviewed to ensure they meet the needs of the community and are not within the scope of SA Health's responsibility.
โ
Upon our Board's approval, the HAC organises and pays for the equipment or upgrade and provides our Foundation with a receipt. This is reimbursed back to the HAC by our Fund.
โ
Small plaques are placed on equipment purchased using BHCF funds across the Bordertown Memorial Hospital as recognition of the community's contribution (your donation).
