🤔 Have you ever noticed that our sign says "Center" instead of the Australian spelling "Centre"?

Well, there's a story behind that...

When our founder, Cherie, lovingly handcrafted the beautiful timber sign that now hangs proudly at the front of the Boonah Community Drop In Center, she checked the spelling. Then checked it again. And again. Convinced she'd nailed it, the sign was finished, painted and proudly hung.

Only then did we realise something was a little... different. 😂

Now, many people would have rushed to repaint it, remake it, or hide the mistake. But that's not what we're about.

You see, Cherie lives with dyslexia. Despite the challenges that can sometimes bring, she has built businesses, supported countless people in our community, helped establish this welcoming space, and somehow still finds time to create beautiful things with her own hands.

So when we spotted the spelling mistake, we made a decision.

We're keeping it.

Because that sign represents something much bigger than perfect spelling.

It represents courage.

It represents determination.

It represents having a go.

And it represents the reality that every single one of us has challenges of some kind - whether visible or invisible.

People living with dyslexia, disability, illness, hardship, mental health challenges, learning differences, caring responsibilities, or life's many obstacles achieve incredible things every day. Their achievements aren't defined by the challenges they face, but by the way they keep moving forward despite them.

So yes, our Boonah Community Drop In Center uses the American spelling. 😆

Not because we're trying to be fancy.

Not because we secretly moved the building to Texas.

Not because we don't care about doing things as well as we can.

But because every time we look at that sign, we're reminded that perfection isn't what matters.

What matters is kindness. Community. Connection. Having a laugh. Supporting one another. And celebrating what people CAN do.

And if you happen to notice the spelling when you visit, just know it's not a mistake anymore...

It's part of our story. ❤️

Take a look around the Boonah Community Drop In Center!

Have you visited us yet?

Nestled at 13 Alfred Street, Boonah (the old squash courts building), our Center has been lovingly transformed into a warm, welcoming community space where everyone is invited to feel at home.

🌿 Wander through our beautiful garden and find a peaceful spot to sit, relax, reflect or simply enjoy a quiet moment.

☕ Step inside and you'll discover a cosy kitchen, dining and lounge area that feels more like a family home than a community facility. It's the perfect place to enjoy a cuppa, have a chat, make new connections or just take a break from the day.

🎨 The former squash courts have been repurposed into spacious activity rooms, creating plenty of room for community activities, programs, workshops and venue hire opportunities.

🎮 Upstairs you'll find our gaming room - a fun space for people to connect, unwind and enjoy some friendly competition.

🚿 Downstairs, our dignity showers and toilet facilities are available for those who need them, helping provide comfort, dignity and support within our community.

♿ The main entrance to the Center is wheelchair accessible, ensuring more people can access and enjoy the space.

One of the things people comment on most is the vibe. It's colourful, welcoming, relaxed and full of warmth. Whether you're popping in for a conversation, attending an activity, seeking support or simply looking for a friendly place to spend some time, you'll always be greeted with a smile.

Swipe through the photos and tell us which space is your favourite! 👇

We're building more than a center - we're building community. 💙
