Important update from The Book Store. 📚

Due to ongoing renovations at Bomaderry Plaza, we have had to temporarily close our doors, with our last day of trading being August 29th. We know many of you are regulars and we will miss seeing you!

But here is the exciting news - when the renovations are complete, we will be moving into a larger space, which means more books, CDs, DVDs, records and clothing, all at the affordable prices you know and love! We cannot wait!

In the meantime, donations are very welcome and can be dropped to Salt base during business hours.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shopped and supported The Book Store over the years. You make our fundraising possible and we look forward to welcoming you back later in the year!

Sometimes what someone needs most is not just practical support, but someone to walk alongside them.

This past year, 48 people participated in our AOD Wellbeing Program, taking courageous steps toward recovery and a healthier future. 121 counselling sessions were delivered across addiction recovery, financial counselling and personal wellbeing. And 23 people living with disability were supported through our NDIS program to pursue their goals and live more independently.

Behind every one of those numbers is a person doing the hard, brave work of change. We are honoured to be part of that journey.

Winter's last weeks at the farm.

These mornings are worth getting up early for. This time of year on the farm feels quite magical (and cold!).

Spring is just around the corner and we're excited to see everything bloom again!

No one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

In the last year, Salt Care distributed 9,633 food hampers to individuals and families across the Shoalhaven who were doing it tough. We also provided 7,430 clothing items, making sure people had not just food on the table but the everyday essentials that help restore a sense of dignity and normality.

None of this happens without the generosity of our donors, partners and volunteers. If you would like to contribute, drop donations to Salt Base at 5-19 Birriley Street, Bomaderry, Monday to Thursday between 10am and 3pm.

Thank you for your support!

Did you know that Salt Care is an approved Work Development Order (WDO) sponsor?

If you have unpaid fines and are finding it difficult to pay, a WDO could be the answer. As an approved sponsor, we can help you work off your debt through volunteering with us or participating in our AOD program, rather than paying cash.

Volunteering with Salt Care reduces your debt each hour, and engaging with our AOD program helps too. Once you begin, Revenue NSW can also lift enforcement actions like licence suspensions.

It is a practical pathway forward, and we are here to help you find one that works for you.

A safe place to sleep changes everything.

In the last 12 months, Salt Care provided 7,944 nights of safe accommodation through Safe Shelter and our temporary housing services. And right now, 597 people are living in stable housing across our Salt Assisted Housing properties, with ongoing support to help them sustain their tenancy and rebuild their lives.

For each of those people, what began as a crisis became a turning point. A bed for the night became a home, and a home became the foundation for everything else.

If you or someone you know needs emergency accommodation in the Shoalhaven, reach out.

We are so proud to share our Hope In Action report, a snapshot of what your generosity has made possible at Salt Care over the past financial year.

Inside you will find real stories of real people whose lives have changed because this community chose to show up. People who found safety, hope, healing and a fresh start, because of you.

Over the coming days and weeks we will be sharing some of the highlights, from the numbers behind our impact across housing, food relief, programs and volunteering, to the stories of the people we have had the privilege of walking alongside this year.
We hope it moves you as much as it has moved us.

The Shoalhaven is a region we love deeply, but it is also a region facing real and growing challenges that we cannot ignore.

These numbers tell the story of what our community is up against. A 26% rise in people sleeping rough. More than half of all households facing socio-economic disadvantage. 83.8 young people per 10,000 experiencing homelessness. A 19.2% increase in housing stress since COVID.

The bushfires of 2019, followed by a global pandemic, pushed many people in our region to breaking point, and the ripple effects are still being felt today.

This is the reality Salt Care works within every single day. And it is why the work of our community, our volunteers, our donors and our partners matters so much.

The Shoalhaven deserves better. And together, we are working toward that.

If you would like to be part of the solution, there are two simple ways to help. Donate through our I Said Yes campaign, or get in touch about volunteering. Every contribution, big or small, makes a real difference to real people right here in our community!

Our Pathways Reboot Program is off to a fantastic start and we couldn't be more excited about what we are seeing!

Launched in July, our first cohort is already making real, meaningful progress. Participants are completing White Card and Traffic Control training, building resumes, preparing for interviews, and developing the practical skills needed to move into employment. Some have already commenced casual work, while others are enrolling at TAFE and exploring new career pathways.

It is early days, but the momentum is real!

Pathways Reboot is a free 12-week employment readiness and personal development program for people who are ready for a fresh start. It may be the right fit if you or someone you know is experiencing long-term unemployment, housing instability, recovery from alcohol or other drug challenges, trauma, mental health challenges, or low confidence and work readiness.

Enrolments are open and new participants are welcome - email us at [email protected] to find out more.

We are so proud of the progress being made within our Salt AOD Wellness Recovery Program!

Three participants who have been engaged with the program for more than 12 months are now living in the Salt AOD house, working toward education and employment goals, and have become valued and beloved members of our community. They volunteer at the Salt Store, support one another through the hard days, and remind us every single day of what becomes possible when someone is truly supported.

We have also recently introduced a new Thursday Recovery Group, which welcomed 12 participants in just its second week. It is a wonderful extension of our AOD program and means we can reach even more people who need support.

Recovery is not a straight line. But it is possible. And we are honoured to walk alongside the people in this program every step of the way.

A heartfelt thank you to COORDINARE for their ongoing support in making this program possible.
