Celebrating World Environment Day πŸŒΏπŸŒΏπŸ¦ŽπŸ¦ŽπŸœπŸœπŸ¦—πŸ¦—

How cool is reel from Maitland Council! We are very glad to be part of the Landcare activities in our Maitland area - there are sites at Bolwarra, East Maitland, Earthcare Park, Rutherford and Walka. Each of the sites are unique. Here at Bolwarra our focus is on establishing a patch of Spotted Gum/Ironbark forest and Lower Hunter Dry Rainforest where there had previously been just a mown grassy slope. The other Sites have more mature plantings and areas of much older growth. Check them out on their pages and see how you can get involved.

All good to go ahead with our planting day this Sunday 24th May. Rain has been lovely, Sunday weather is meant to be ok (maybe bring raincoat just in case) and tubestock is excited to be going into the ground 🀣🀣

Watch out for World Bee Day on Wed 20 May 26...
Along with birds, moths, flies, wasps and bats, bees are so important in supporting our biodiversity, including in your backyard.
Habitat loss, pesticide use, diseases, parasites (such as the verroa mite) and climate change, are all taking their toll on the overall bee population. However, bees underpin our healthy diets and food diversity.
World Bee Day celebrates the important role bees have on our food security, biodiversity and ecosystem health. Bees play a vital role in preserving our ecosystem health and provide pollination services for plants.
To help out, last year the Bolwarra Landcare set up a β€˜Bee Hotel Village’ (see pic) for native bees at the Bolwarra Landcare Site at the John Wilkinson Sporting Complex. These have been very effective. And if you are interested in helping our bee population thrive, google β€˜how to make a bee motel’ in your backyard, and give it a go.
