🌧️⛰️ WHAT A WEEKEND AT Blackall 100! ⛰️🌧️

If you like your weekends with a little bit of everything, The Blackall 100 certainly delivered! 😂

We had rain, we had mud, we had freezing winds, HIGH winds blowing over marquees (because apparently they wanted to join the race too! 🤣), MORE rain, a bit of sunshine and a whole lot of fun!

🏃‍♂️ Competitors took on the epic 100km, the challenging 50km and the 21km races, with some absolutely cracking finish times. Huge congratulations to everyone who took on the challenge!

Meanwhile, our team was out across the numerous checkpoints, keeping things running for OVER 24 HOURS. A little rain, a little mud and a lack of sleep weren't going to stop this crew! 💪☕️

A massive THANK YOU to all the amazing volunteers across every checkpoint who braved the elements, kept smiling and helped make this event the success it was. ❤️

Blackall 100 — where the runners chase finish lines, the volunteers chase flying marquees, and everyone goes home with a few more stories to tell! 😂🌧️

🚨 Well, hello again, SCFAV followers! 👋😂

Our SCFAV socials have been a little quiet lately. It seems our social media person has been busy running around the countryside working (well, that’s what she tells us! 😉), and keeping everyone updated has slipped down the to-do list.

If anyone out there has a passion for social media and would love to volunteer with a fantastic first aid group, we’d love to hear from you! A helping hand with sharing our adventures would be very welcome. 💚📱

BUT… just because our socials have been quiet doesn’t mean we’ve been sitting around doing nothing! Far from it! The last four weeks have been absolutely BUSY, BUSY, BUSY! 💪

Here’s a little catch-up on what we’ve been up to:

🏃 In2Adventure Staged Trail Run – Port Stephens – two of our APC students had the fantastic opportunity to head to NSW and learn under the expert guidance of some amazing local healthcare professionals, including paramedics and doctors. What a brilliant hands-on learning experience for both students! 👏🩺

🥩 MEAT Noosa - A Gourmet Smokeout – another great event, and if the photos are anything to go by, everyone had a cracking time! We’ll let the photos do the talking on this one. 😉

🥎 P4AC Masters Softball Tournament – three days of softball action! Plenty happening on and off the field, with SCFAV there to support the event and the community. ⚾👏

🇫🇯 Fiji Day on the Coast – a fantastic multicultural extravaganza celebrating culture, community and plenty of good vibes!

And just when you think we might get a chance to put our feet up… THINK AGAIN! 🤣

🏃‍♂️⛰️ THIS WEEKEND, WE’RE HEADING TO Run Queensland Blackall 100!

That’s right, another big weekend is on the cards, so we’re busy checking equipment, packing gear and getting everything ready to go. Our volunteers certainly know how to keep busy! 💪

What a great night running the practical side of Run Queensland First Aid course! 🩹☕️

The groups kicked things off with the practical CPR component before rotating through the different stations to brush up on medical conditions, knees & ankles, slings and, of course… snake bites! 🐍

There was plenty of hands-on practice, plenty of coffee flowing ☕️ and more than a few laughs as everyone took turns practising on each other. 😂

It’s always a good sign when nobody leaves with an actual injury… despite all that talk about knees and ankles! 😉

Fantastic to have everyone requalified and ready to get back out there supporting Run Queensland events. 💪🩺

🚨🏐⚽🎷 Another weekend, another attempt by SCFAV to be in multiple places at once! 😂

Saturday was all about the sport!

🏐 First up, the Caloundra Netball Finals — plenty of fast-paced action, excited players and no doubt a few nervous spectators! We were there, field-side (well, court-side!), ready to assist if needed.

⚽ Then things went up several notches at the Soccer Finals at Sunshine Coast Stadium!

And when we say it was a big event, we mean BIG! 😳
⚽ 6 playing fields
⚽ 3 warm-up fields
⚽ Heaps of players
⚽ Heaps of spectators
⚽ And SCFAV volunteers trying to remember which field they were meant to be looking at! 😂

It was fantastic to have our ACP students along to experience all the action and get some real-world event experience.

They were watching, learning, asking questions and taking it all in…

And apparently, so were the rest of us, because we were SO busy we forgot to take photos! 🤦‍♀️📸😂

By the time someone finally remembered that social media likes proof that we actually exist, there were only 4 of us left! 😂😂😂

Sunday was a much more civilised affair with Jazz in the Park in Buderim 🎷🌳

A beautiful afternoon, some relaxing music and a chance for the team to finish the weekend without having to keep track of 9 different sporting fields! 😅

A HUGE thank you to every member of our amazing team who pitched in over the weekend. ❤️ We honestly couldn't do it without you and are so grateful for the time you give to support our community.

💙 HAPPY FATHER’S DAY from SCFAV! 💙

Today we’re celebrating ALL the dads — biological dads, stepdads, foster dads, granddads, stand-in dads, bonus dads, honorary dads… basically anyone who has ever been called “Dad” and thought, *“Well… I have no idea what I’m doing either!”* 😂

And a HUGE Happy Father’s Day to the dads in our SCFAV family! 👏💙

A special shout-out to the dads who volunteer with us — giving up weekends, evenings, sleep-ins and family time to head out to events, patch people up, carry ridiculously heavy first aid bags and generally answer the call when someone needs help. 🚑😂

And to the dads who don't volunteer themselves but support the ones who do — thanks for putting up with the early starts, late finishes, “I’ll only be gone for a couple of hours” (yeah… right! 🤣), and the never-ending first aid stories when we finally get home!

We genuinely couldn’t do what we do without you! ❤️

So today, put your feet up, enjoy a cuppa (or something stronger 😉), and remember…

You’re not just a Dad. You’re a SCFAV Dad. That’s practically a qualification in patience! 😂

What a BIG last two weeks our team has had! 🚑💙

Hans & Jo were back for the final two days of RYDA, and we were absolutely honoured to be presented with a Letter of Thanks in recognition of our ongoing commitment to Road Safety Education.

Since 2009, Rotary Club of Caloundra has put an incredible 20,000 students through the RYDA program! 🎉 That’s 20,000 young people learning valuable lessons to help make our roads safer for everyone — and we’re proud to play our little part in that journey. 🚗💨

And of course, there was our weekly netball in Caloundra! 🏐 Deb & Anna had a great time, as always, looking after the junior netballers — the future netball stars! 🌟

Then JoJo headed west to Boondooma Homestead and Festivals for 5 days looking after everyone at Scots in the Bush! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A full program of all things Scottish — music (love the bagpipes!), chats, camping out in the cool (okay… FREEZING 🥶) weather, plenty of fun and laughter, and just a sprinkling of first aid in between! Australian Celtic Women made use of JoJo's tiaras and Burnett Celtic Pipes & Drums put on an incredible black light performance. Just two of the many amazing entertainers at the Festival.

It’s definitely one of JoJo’s favourite events… and we can see why! ❤️

Two weeks, multiple events, plenty of kilometres and lots of first aid later… our team has certainly been kept busy! 😴😂

We wouldn’t have it any other way though — supporting our community, keeping people safe and having a whole lot of fun along the way! 💙

🌅 Early starts, big miles and a beautiful sunrise! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

SCFAV was back out in the early morning hours at Rainbow Beach to provide first aid coverage for Run Queensland’s Marathon. 🏅

The bonus? Being treated to a pretty spectacular sunrise while everyone else was still tucked up in bed! 🌅☀️

A huge thank you to Helen and Anne for getting up bright and early to keep everyone safe. We’re pretty sure you were more than ready to get tucked back into bed yourselves tonight! 😴😂

📣 SCFAV Training Night is back next Tuesday... and this is one you won't want to miss!

The topic??? Warren's Words of Wisdom!

"Experience can't be taught from a textbook—but it can be shared."

Warren is one of SCFAV's founding members and has spent many years as a QAS First Responder. Throughout that time, he's gained an incredible wealth of knowledge and experience, and we're incredibly fortunate that he's sharing it with our team.

Whether it's patient assessment, practical first aid tips, or those little nuggets of wisdom that only come from years on the job, Warren always has something valuable to teach. He's an amazing mentor whose passion for helping others learn continues to inspire everyone around him.

"Come for the training, stay for the stories and wisdom."

If you've ever wanted to ask, *"Why do you do it that way?"* or *"What's your best tip?"*, this is the perfect opportunity.

Whether you're one of our members, a student, work in healthcare, or simply have an interest in first aid and emergency care, we'd love to have you join us. Come along, ask plenty of questions, share your experiences, and leave the night with a little more knowledge than you arrived with.

Rain, hail or shine... our SCFAV volunteers were back in action! 🌧️💙

Last weekend, the SCFAV team was on hand at Santa Paws in the Park, hosted by 4 Paws Animal Rescue. 🐾🎅

The verdict, according to Renee?
👍 An amazing community event with an overload of adorable furry friends.
👎 The miserable weather, which unfortunately kept some people tucked up warm and dry at home.

Fast forward to today, and Helen was supporting another fantastic
Rotary Club of Caloundra community initiative at the RYDA Road Safety Program at the Sunshine Coast Turf Club, helping students gain valuable driver awareness skills before they hit the road. 🚗

And while the students were learning life-saving lessons, Helen's highlight was watching the racehorses put through their paces on the track – not a bad office for the day! 🏇

A big shout-out to our incredible SCFAV team for once again giving their time to support these wonderful community events. We couldn't do it without our amazing volunteers! ❤️

Road safety starts long before you get behind the wheel! 🚗💙

Hans & Jo were on hand this week to support students taking part in a Rotary Club of Caloundra RYDA session. It was fantastic to see so many young people learning valuable skills and knowledge that could one day save lives.

RYDA is an interactive road safety education program for senior secondary students, designed to prepare them for the responsibilities of driving. Through six engaging sessions, students explore the "Fatal Five" road safety factors – speeding, drink and drug driving, fatigue, seatbelts and distractions – helping them make safer choices on the road.

A huge thank you to the Rotary Club of Caloundra Pacific and everyone involved in delivering such an important program. We're proud to play a small part in helping educate the next generation of safe drivers.

Well done, Hans & Jo! 👏 Only **5 more sessions to go!**
