Busy weekend? You bet! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

The SCFAV crew has been out and about again!

Saturday kicked off with a cold, wet, muddy, and very early start at the Yandina Five "O". The rain certainly made things interesting, with plenty of mud to navigate and a few slippery moments along the way! ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿฅพ๐Ÿ˜‚ But despite the conditions, the stunning views from Checkpoint 1 made that early alarm worthwhile. ๐ŸŒ„

Netball was also on the agenda, with the team providing coverage for Round 7 at Caloundra Indoor Stadium, before heading off to catch the Sunshine Coast Lightning vs Adelaide Thunderbirds clash. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘

And Sunday? Well... for once, we actually managed a rest day! ๐Ÿ˜ด

But the downtime won't last long...

This weekend is shaping up to be another busy one with the team heading to:
๐Ÿšถ Brisbane's Bloody Long Walk
โšก EV & Electrify Street Expo
๐Ÿถ A Dogs Day Out
๐Ÿ More netball action

We're not sure if we'll be dealing with mud, blisters, excited dogs, netball injuries, or all of the aboveโ€”but we're ready for it! ๐Ÿ˜†

If you spot our volunteers out and about, be sure to say hello! ๐Ÿ‘‹

As always, if you're interested in what we do and would like to learn more about volunteering with SCFAV, send us a messageโ€”we'd love to chat.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿš‘ **What do you get after 3 days covering the SCX Multi Action Sports Comp?**

Sand....

More sand....

And somehow... even MORE sand! ๐Ÿ˜†

We're pretty sure our equipment has now visited every grain on the beach, and we've discovered sand in places that sand should never, ever be. Seriously, we're finding it in parts of our gear that we didn't even know existed! ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

A huge thank you to Michael, Mel and Helen who rolled up their sleeves and tackled the epic post-event clean-up. From pulling equipment apart, to scrubbing, cleaning, drying and reassembling, it was a mammoth effort to get everything back into tip-top shape and ready for this weekend's adventures.

The good news? Our gear is now sparkling clean.

The bad news? We're still expecting to find random grains of sand until at least Christmas. ๐Ÿคฃ

If you've ever wondered what volunteering with us is like, it's not all first aid and events... sometimes it's becoming highly qualified in advanced sand removal techniques! ๐Ÿ˜œ

Want to lend a hand and help us fight the never-ending battle against rogue sand? We'd love to hear from you! New volunteers are always welcome, and we promise not every job is this *gritty*. ๐Ÿ˜‰

๐Ÿ”Ž **Even with such a huge and busy weekend, SCFAV still found time to play a round of "Where's George?"** ๐Ÿ˜†

With volunteers spread across multiple events, George was determined not to miss out on the fun!

๐Ÿ‘€ **Can you spot George at this checkpoint?** Let us know when you've found him!

๐Ÿ’ก Got any ideas on where we should hide George next time? Drop your suggestions in the comments!

๐ŸŽ‰ **We did it!** ๐ŸŽ‰

What an absolutely HUGE weekend for our amazing volunteers! Weโ€™re running on caffeine, adrenaline and good vibes right now, but we wouldnโ€™t have it any other way! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ„โ€โ™€๏ธ Helen pulled off an incredible 3 days at the SCX Multi Sport Comp, joined by fellow event warriors Michael and Hans. It was a weekend packed with high-flying jet ski action, skateboard skills, and enough sand to fill a first aid kit (or ten!). They certainly rode the wave of a busy weekend! ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ˜Ž

๐Ÿ Deb and Anna enjoyed the action at Caloundra District Netball Association, before Anna backed it up alongside George, Hans, Jo and Mel at the Sunshine Coast Lightning vs Swifts game. It was full-court action from start to finish, and they definitely enjoyed a busy day of watching the games! โ›น๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ JoJo headed out to Ewen Maddock Dam with a couple of our APC students for In2Adventure's 24hr Ultra Trailrun, where the athletes weren't the only ones keeping everyone entertained! A memorable midnight performance featuring bagpipes and a fire show certainly added some extra spark to the night. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŽถ

Not content with just one big event, Sunday saw JoJo, Deb, Hans, Jo, George, Mel, Renee and James joining forces with the fantastic team from Moreton Bay First Aid Volunteers Inc to cover checkpoints at The Bloody Long Walk - Sunshine Coast. With more than 800 participants, some dressed in costume, pounding the pavement in support of mitochondrial research, it was inspiring to witness so much energy, determination and community spirit. You could say everyone went the extra mile... and then some! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ’ช

A massive thank you goes out to every volunteer who gave up their time this weekend. We simply couldn't cover all of these fantastic events without your dedication, enthusiasm and willingness to jump in wherever needed.

Now, if anyone knows where we can order a bulk supply of sleep, please let us know! ๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜‚

If what we do sounds like something you'd enjoy being part of, we'd love to hear from you! Whether you're interested in volunteering, learning new skills, helping your community, or just finding out more about what we do, drop us a message and have a chat with us. You never know where the journey might take you! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ™Œ

SCFAV has certainly clocked up the kilometres this weekโ€ฆ and weโ€™re only just getting started! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ˜…

Helen has been out and about supporting the Aunt Betty Memorial Walk, and apparently decided sleep was optional because sheโ€™s backing it up with THREE big days (Fri-Sun) and other team members at the SCX Multi Action Sport Comp. If you hear jet skis revving in the distance, chances are Helen is somewhere nearby wondering if seasickness counts as first aid training ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿšค

As if that wasnโ€™t enough, weโ€™re also helping cover In2Adventure 24hr Ultra Trailrun at Ewen Maddock Dam. Because apparently running normal distances during daylight hours just isnโ€™t challenging enough anymore ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ˜ด

Saturday keeps us on our toes courtside with our usual Netball coverage โ€” Caloundra rounds in the morning before heading off to the Sunshine Coast Lightning vs Swifts game in the afternoon. Safe to say our volunteers are doing more running than some of the players! ๐Ÿ

Then Sundayโ€ฆ wellโ€ฆ Sunday is a *Bloody Long Walk!* ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ˜‚
Weโ€™ll be teaming up with Moreton Bay First Aid Volunteers Inc to cover The Bloody Long Walk - Sunny Coast โ€” a casual little 35km stroll from Coolum Beach to Mooloolaba Beach. (Whoever said โ€œitโ€™s just a walkโ€ clearly hasnโ€™t done 35kms!)

If you spot us out at the checkpoints, stop by and say hello! And donโ€™t forget to keep an eye out for our famous โ€œWhereโ€™s George?โ€ gameโ€ฆ although knowing George, heโ€™ll probably be hiding somewhere suspiciously close to the snack table ๐Ÿ‘€๐ŸŒ

As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, we were once again out and about providing spectator first aid at the State of Origin Menโ€™s Open Training Session at Sunshine Coast Stadium!

Despite the drizzly weather, the loyal Origin fans still turned out in force to catch a glimpse of their favourite players in action โ€” and the atmosphere definitely didnโ€™t disappoint.

Of course, our โ€œFind Georgeโ€ game made another appearanceโ€ฆ although today it quickly turned into: โ€œWill George EVER wash that shirt again after this event?โ€ ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ‰

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers (special mention to one of our new members James who donned the uniform for the first time and came out with us๐Ÿ‘) who continue to give their time to support the community at events like these. We love being part of the action and helping keep everyone safe while they enjoy themselves.

If youโ€™ve ever thought about volunteering at fun community and sporting events like this, weโ€™d love to hear from you โ€” drop us a message to find out more!

And if youโ€™re an Australian Paramedical College - RTO 32513 student looking to gain extra placement hours at real-world events, send us an email at [email protected].

Go the Queensland Maroons and best of luck in the up coming State of Origin!

๐ŸŽ‰ What a fantastic way to celebrate National Volunteer Week! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

Last nightโ€™s training was extra special with FOUR new members joining the team! ๐Ÿ™Œ How incredible is that?!

A huge welcome to โญ Renee, Bethany, Claudia & James โญ โ€” weโ€™re so excited to have you all on board and canโ€™t wait for you to be part of the fun, friendships and community support that weโ€™re all about ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ˜Š

We also had a surprise visit from our resident paramedic Mick ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿš‘ who dropped in to say hello to the team โ€” always great to see you, Mick! ๐Ÿ‘

With so many keen new faces joining us, weโ€™re now looking at the possibility of increasing our training nights from monthly to 1st & 3rd Tuesdays each month ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”ฅ Stay tuned to find out when this will take effect!

But, donโ€™t let Renee, Bethany, Claudia & James stay the โ€œnewbiesโ€ for too long ๐Ÿ˜œ
Why not come along yourself, check out what we do, meet the team and get involved in supporting the community โค๏ธ

Drop us a message if you are keen!

Itโ€™s National Volunteers Week and here at Sunshine Coast First Aid Volunteers, weโ€™re celebrating the incredible humans behind the uniforms ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿ’™

From treating blisters at community walks, covering sporting events, supporting ANZAC Day services, restocking vehicles, cleaning gear, training on weeknights and everything in between โ€” our volunteers do it all with heart, humour and a genuine passion for helping others.

Our team is made up of everyday people doing extraordinary things for the community ๐Ÿ™Œ

Some are healthcare workers, some are students, some are retirees, some have never worked in first aid before joining usโ€ฆ but all share the same goal โ€” helping people when it matters most.

But behind every volunteer is an incredible support crew ๐Ÿ’™
The partners, spouses, children, families and friends who support the late nights, early mornings, weekends away, missed family time and endless event stories when they get home ๐Ÿ˜„

Our volunteers couldnโ€™t do what they do without your understanding, encouragement and support โ€” and we thank you too ๐Ÿ‘

Thereโ€™s also plenty of laughs, friendships, late-night snack runs and memories made along the way ๐Ÿ˜„

If youโ€™ve ever seen us at an event and thought โ€œthat looks interestingโ€ โ€” this is your sign!
You could be one of us too ๐Ÿ’™

Whether youโ€™re experienced in first aid or completely new and keen to learn, weโ€™d love to welcome you to a training night and show you what SCFAV is all about.

To all of our amazing volunteers โ€” and the people behind them โ€” thank you for your time, dedication and the difference you make in our community every single day. We appreciate you more than words can say ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘

17/05/2026

๐Ÿš‘ SCFAV has had to move our monthly training night to this Tuesday (19th May) evening! Usually we meet on the first Tuesday of the month.

This month weโ€™ll be covering:
๐Ÿฉบ Treating an unconscious patient
โค๏ธ CPR refreshers
๐Ÿฆถ Blister care and management ahead of the upcoming Bloody Long Walk โ€” where thereโ€™s always plenty of opportunities to help participants with a range of injuries (especially blisters!).

If you have an interest in first aid and a passion for helping the community, weโ€™d love to welcome you along to a training night. Come meet the team, see what we do, and find out how you can get involved with SCFAV! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿ SCFAV was back again at the University of the Sunshine Coast Sports Precinct to provide coverage for the reserve game between the Lightning Bolts & Vixens Academy.

Our volunteers love being part of these exciting community sporting events โ€” helping keep everyone safe while enjoying some fantastic netball action! ๐Ÿ’™โ›‘๏ธ

If events like this interest you and you have a passion for helping the community, why not consider volunteering with us? You could be part of these games and many other amazing events on a regular basis while gaining valuable experience and making a real difference. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Interested in joining the team? Weโ€™d love to hear from you!
